Open Minded and Accepting Campus

I love that Goucher is so welcoming to anybody. It is very easy to be yourself on this campus. The professors are wonderful, friendly individuals who take the time to get to know their students.

No One Cares About You, Only Your Money.

The school gets almost all of their money from the insanely high cost of tuition, which is not nearly worth it by the way. They pretend to care in order to keep you from transferring, but they don't even do a good job of that. Don't go to Goucher.

So Many Things!

1) the clubs! We have a huge variety, from TARDIS: a Doctor Who Club to Pokemon League to rock climbing club to Open Circle Theatre and so on. And if we don't have a club you're interested in, you can feel free to make it! It's so easy, and then you can get funds to do activities.

2) Soon we will have our very own TARDIS. (well in physical form...we're still working on the science bits...)

3) We're on a busy road that leads to so many things to do (including like 7 different sushi places) within walking distance and are right next to Baltimore which has even more to do! And even though we have a big town and city next to us, you can't hear a sound of the road inside the Goucher bubble, there are tons of woods around, and a wonderful environment. Basically: small school, big resources.

4) The study abroad program: Goucher requires students to study abroad and actually GIVES them $1200 to do so. I went on one of the 3-week intensive courses to China and it was amazing. The professors really put things together and took us to more than 7 cities including one on the border of Tibet.

Facts

Traditions
  • Club Rush Day: During the first week of class, student clubs set up information tables along Van Meter Highway to recruit new members. No one passes through without signing up for at least one club.
  • GIG (Get Into Goucher Day): The date of GIG is kept a secret as long as possible, but it always falls on a Friday afternoon in the spring. At noon, the SRC bell rings, officially canceling classes for the rest of the day. Everyone runs down to the SRC to join the carnival, complete with rides, games, music, food, and entertainment. Previous GIGs included carnival rides, a mechanical bull, Jell-O wrestling, human foosball, psychic readings, and airbrushed tattoos. The evening ends with a huge concert, featuring popular acts like the Sugar Hill Gang and They Might Be Giants.
  • Midnight Madness: The pep rally for Goucher’s basketball teams, held at midnight on the first day of the basketball season. Events include the introduction of the teams and mascot, games, prizes, music, a 3-point shootout contest, and a slam-dunk contest. The most school spirit you’ll ever see at Goucher.
  • Parent Weekend: Held at the beginning of October, students invite their families to check out Goucher life. Highlights include a lunch with Goucher’s president, a student talent show, athletic events, and free transportation to the Inner Harbor.
  • Senior Week: The celebratory week between the end of finals and graduation. The entire week is one big party. The Alumni House and senior class representatives organize events for seniors, including a pub crawl in Fell’s Point, a trip to an amusement park, tickets to an Orioles game, a cookout, and any other events seniors request.
  • Spring Gala : A formal dance held in the spring (like the high school prom, but better). Tickets often sell out, showing how popular this dance is, considering the apathy among students toward most activities.
  • Winter Meltdown: An afternoon of stress relief held before finals week of the fall semester. Activities include free professional massages, board games, miniature golf, and food. The biggest attraction is the car smash: students trash a car with sledgehammers and baseball bats for the ultimate stress relief.
