College Prowler Take
Towson is a middle-class town with a population of about 50,000. Each section of town has a different atmosphere. Between Goucher and Towson University lies the “college atmosphere,” where stores, restaurants, and bars line the streets. To the east of Goucher lies the “family atmosphere,” where there are neighborhoods full of families with young children and a few shopping centers. Both areas are perfectly safe during the day, but a few crazies usually come out after the sun goes down. All the college student essentials are within walking distance: a four-story mall, three grocery stores, Target, Wal-Mart, fast food joints, restaurants, a movie theater, a concert venue, bars, bookstores, thrift shops, and a record store. While most students prefer to drive, it’s nice to know that everything you need is only a short walk away. When students venture into Baltimore City or Washington DC, it’s usually out of boredom rather than necessity. Besides shopping, eating, catching a movie, or going to a party at Towson University, Towson life can get old after a while. Luckily, Baltimore City has plenty of tourist attractions, like the Inner Harbor, Baltimore Aquarium, Maryland Science Center, Power Plant Live, Fells Point, and Federal Hill. If Baltimore gets old, drive an extra 45 minutes to Washington DC. From historical monuments to national museums and clubs to concerts, DC is always a good place for new off-campus adventures. There’s enough going on in Baltimore and DC to keep you occupied during your stint at Goucher.

Towson is nice and has all the...
Towson is nice and has all the basics anyone could want from a college town: movies, college eateries, a supermarket, bookstore, music store, and, down the road a bit, a big shopping plaza with a Target, Michaels, and a bunch of clothing stores. If you want nightlife, you can go downtown and get it. Students occasionally go down to Fells Point or the Inner Harbor, though mostly the former. I think people recognize the Harbor for the tourist trap that it is and only really go there for the aquarium and science museum. There's not much else to do there that you can't do in Towson.

Baltimore is an amazing city. There is so much to do and there are so many areas to explore. Towson, the city Goucher is located in, is a cool college town. It is very safe and one of the nicer parts of Baltimore. There are movie theaters, restaurants, concerts, and many other things to do off campus. Towson University, Johns Hopkins, and Loyola are all really close. Many Goucher students attend Towson parties or Johns Hopkins fraternity parties on the weekends. Kids from all of the schools usually go to the fraternity parties, so they are a great way to meet people from different schools.

Towson is really small and doesn't have much to do or see, but Baltimore is really cool. There is the aquarium and the American Visionary Art Museum—really, the whole Inner Harbor is fun, and, overall, there are a lot of good places to eat and walk around. It can be sketchy in some places but has gotten a lot better recently—it's a bit of a hidden gem.

Towson equals happy suburbia land...
Towson equals happy suburbia land just outside of Baltimore. Cons: Towson University students, bad ethnic food, and lots of chains and a giant mall. Pros: Towson Hot Bagels, Record & Tape Traders, Ukazoo Books, and Trader Joe's. We are also just outside of Baltimore, which is a huge plus. Baltimore is very friendly and accessible by car, with tons and tons of great art shows, concerts, theater, wonderful eateries, and a host of colleges/universities. But be careful—many things about HBO's "The Wire" are true, and Baltimore ground changes fast outside of the central city. Just remember that everyone is usually minding their own business if they don't look friendly.

Baltimore is a great city, and...
Baltimore is a great city, and Goucher is only 15 minutes away. It has a great music scene with good arts and things of the sorts. Towson, where Goucher is immediately located, is full of bars—it is your typical college town. If that is your scene, it is accessible, but I'd recommend avoiding it. Girls in Uggs and excessively drunk guys in backwards hats—not fun.
