Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

While Goucher doesn’t have huge keg parties, there is still plenty to do on and off campus. On Wednesday nights, Goucher students flock to the Crease for ladies night specials. On a typical weekend night, students either party on campus or venture off campus to go out to dinner with friends, catch a movie, check out the bar scene, dance the night away at Baltimore clubs, or scope out parties at local universities. All of these activities are easily accessible by walking or taking the Collegetown Shuttle—just keep in mind that the shuttle isn’t always on time, and the last shuttle leaves from the Inner Harbor at midnight.

For students under 21 or who aren’t into the drinking scene, there are sometimes on-campus events, inlcuding dating gameshows, karaoke nights, informal dances, and student performances. Needless to say, there is always something to do. The most popular events include live band performances, student dance concerts, and various student theater productions in Mildred Dunmock Theatre.

Things Might Have Changed Since I Have Been There.

I will separate my review by the possible topics:

Parties: Parties at Goucher tend to be very small and cliquey. It took a while to find the right group of friends to party and hang out with. The athletes tend to party only with other athletes, and it's very difficult to get into their parties. The artsy kids go off and do their own thing. The weekends tend to be very dead because kids go off campus to look for the parties (one of the reasons that I felt really safe on weekend nights). Night life might have improved since the building of the new student buildling, The Athenaeum (it's an awesome buildling, I highly recommend checking it out!).

Bar/club Scene: Goucher has the Gopher Hole, a small 'bar' that does not serve alcohol (but it's a good place to get a late night snack with some friends and relax). Student groups perform there, documentaries are shown there and sometimes the president informally converses and holds discussions with the students. Off campus, there a couple bars, but the scene around Towson is not very impressive.

Transportation: There is the Collegetown Shuttle, which will take you from Goucher College to neighbording schools, such as Towson University, Johns Hopkins University, Maryland Institute College of Art, and the inner harbor. It is essential for getting around to parties if you don't have a car, or if you've been drinking.

If You Want to You Can Generally Find Stuff

Parties on campus aren't a big thing. The school is getting better about holding dances and such events on weekends after complaints. It is easy to find things to do off campus if you want to make the effort. There are also lots of bars in Towson and The Latin Palace is a popular club with Goucher students in Baltimore

Non-Existent

The parties and nightlife is really lame in Towson. A lot of people go to parties at other universities but they also tend to be dirty, smelly, and crowded. I much prefer the nightlife in DC or Miami. That said, it's a great place to get homework done on a Saturday night!

Most clubs in Baltimore allow those 18 and up to party, but not to drink. Keep your ears open for college nights at local clubs; it’s the best place to chill with an under-21 crowd.
