College Prowler Take

While Goucher doesn’t have huge keg parties, there is still plenty to do on and off campus. On Wednesday nights, Goucher students flock to the Crease for ladies night specials. On a typical weekend night, students either party on campus or venture off campus to go out to dinner with friends, catch a movie, check out the bar scene, dance the night away at Baltimore clubs, or scope out parties at local universities. All of these activities are easily accessible by walking or taking the Collegetown Shuttle—just keep in mind that the shuttle isn’t always on time, and the last shuttle leaves from the Inner Harbor at midnight.

For students under 21 or who aren’t into the drinking scene, there are sometimes on-campus events, inlcuding dating gameshows, karaoke nights, informal dances, and student performances. Needless to say, there is always something to do. The most popular events include live band performances, student dance concerts, and various student theater productions in Mildred Dunmock Theatre.

If there's a party on campus,...

If there's a party on campus, count on it being small with close friends. Once friends start to move off campus, there are house parties in the city, which are fun and sociable, but the party scene is mostly small unless you're on a sports team. Sports teams, especially Frisbee and soccer, party together. If you have friends that live in the off-campus apartments, then there are dance parties there on weekend nights. Students at Goucher aren't too out of hand with substances at parties, and security is pretty good about keeping noise down and writing up underage drinking if the room you're in is being too loud.

Any parties on campus are low-key...

Any parties on campus are low-key and more centered around hanging out, listening to music, and dancing. There are a couple underage clubs in Baltimore and, of course, bars for students that are 21, but people mostly go to house parties and concerts.

Parties on campus are unique to...

Parties on campus are unique to Goucher. They are smaller, with closer groups of friends, rather than large and anonymous. There is usually something going on on campus, but bigger parties occur off campus. For the 21+ crowd, there are a few bars around Towson, which is a five-minute drive, an eight-minute shuttle ride, or a 15-minute walk. There are also bars, clubs, and venues in Baltimore, which is a 15-minute drive or 45-minute shuttle ride.

There is only one bar in Towson...

There is only one bar in Towson proper, which is an okay place to get drinks and blow off steam after classes. I never go to any of the bars in the city, and I never really hear people talking about how great they were, but maybe I just don't hang out with people who spent a lot of time down there. The "parties" on campus mostly consisted of binge drinking in people's rooms. There are definitely dorms know for their party scene.

Most students engage in partying, but if you prefer not to drink, you won't be pressured. I have not found a lot of good clubs or bars to go to in the area.

What to Do if You're Not 21

Most clubs in Baltimore allow those 18 and up to party, but not to drink. Keep your ears open for college nights at local clubs; it’s the best place to chill with an under-21 crowd.

The Recher Theatre, an intimate concert venue, is a popular hangout and within walking distance from Goucher. Acts include local and national bands that are on the verge of (or the fall from) fame.
