College Prowler Take
Goucher provides an atmosphere for students to grow, learn, and expand their views on the world without being restricted or criticized. With an attentive and experienced faculty, freedom to design one’s major, endless leadership opportunities, and a stimulating series of lectures, discussions, and performances, the Goucher experience is one-of-a-kind. Goucher is also the first school in the country to require that all students complete a study abroad experience. Despite complaints on parking, public transportation, the social scene, and campus facilities, the majority of Goucher students have great overall experiences. The quality and variety of the academics, study abroad programs, and the close-knit community are among the contributing factors to their experiences. Students who transferred or wish they did disliked the atmosphere of student apathy toward on-campus events, clubs, and athletics. They felt that Goucher’s small community was too small for them and that it didn't provide enough options when it came to both academic and social life. One difference between those who have a great overall experience and those who do not is that the first group knows what they want from Goucher and are willing to take initiative to achieve it. The College doesn’t create the college experience for you—you actually have to get involved on campus and be proactive about things that interest you to find your place within the Goucher community. Students actively involved on campus cite this supportive and open-minded community as the core of their positive experience.

Any school is what you make of it....
Any school is what you make of it. I love Goucher, but I could easily see myself at another liberal arts school. The three biggest factors for me when deciding on a college—well, apart from price—were size, location, and distance from home, and for me, Goucher works pretty well. If you can find people you can really connect with, then that's the right school for you.

Goucher was my first choice school...
Goucher was my first choice school and still is. I miss the large communal school spirit associated with marching band and football because we don't have those things, but Goucher makes up for this with many other characteristics. The small community here is very humbling. I can hang out with one of my friends and meet five new people by association, and it is completely cool. Everyone is usually very relaxed, including the professors, who are understanding, insightful, and very easy to talk to.

I absolutely love Goucher. After...
I absolutely love Goucher. After transferring here from a large university, I was overwhelmed by the sense of community Goucher had. But, if I could do it all over, I would definitely do the same thing.

I love Goucher. It was my first...
I love Goucher. It was my first choice, and I wouldn't have been happy anywhere else. I find the people here so amazing, and the classes are great! I feel like every class has something in it that I can connect to another class. And when I go home, I find myself bringing up random tidbits of information and seeing the inequalities more than ever in our society. I think, like most schools, Goucher is what you make of it—but it gives you every opportunity to make your time here great!

I have very mixed feelings about...
I have very mixed feelings about Goucher. I do not like the administration, but I love the teaching faculty. Housing is a huge problem, as is seating in the dining halls and access to classes. Small classes are a huge plus, but it also means the school can feel really, really small. I probably would not come to Goucher if I could do it all over again—but it's hard to say how I would feel about another school.
