Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Goucher provides an atmosphere for students to grow, learn, and expand their views on the world without being restricted or criticized. With an attentive and experienced faculty, freedom to design one’s major, endless leadership opportunities, and a stimulating series of lectures, discussions, and performances, the Goucher experience is one-of-a-kind. Goucher is also the first school in the country to require that all students complete a study abroad experience. Despite complaints on parking, public transportation, the social scene, and campus facilities, the majority of Goucher students has a great overall experience. The quality and variety of the academics, study abroad programs, and the close-knit community are among the contributing factors to students' experiences.

Students who transferred, or wish they did, disliked the atmosphere of student apathy toward on-campus events, clubs, and athletics. They felt that Goucher’s small community was too small for them and that it didn't provide enough options when it came to both academic and social life. One difference between those who have a great overall experience and those who do not is that the first group knows what they want from Goucher and is willing to take initiative to achieve it. Goucher rewards passion and determination in the form of internships, fellowships, and career opportunities. The College doesn’t create the college experience for you—you actually have to get involved on campus and be proactive about things that interest you to find your place within the Goucher community. Students actively involved on campus cite this supportive and open-minded community as the core of their positive experience.

I Love It Here

Goucher has an amazing community. It is so easy to meet people and fit in. The social life and academics make the school an overall great place to be. When I stepped onto the beautiful campus, i knew I could see myself here. Everyone was waving to each other and smiling to me during my tour. I immediately felt at home at Goucher.

Definitely Where I'm Meant to Be

Goucher is a wonderful atmosphere. Like any college, it has its issues but overall my classes are engaging, my professors are helpful, and the campus is beautiful. The Athenaeum (the library) is opened 24/7 which is wonderful.

What You Make of It

Goucher has been fantastic for me. I dropped out of high school because I was bored, but never thought I would go to college. When Goucher accepts you, they look at the whole package-grades factor in, but they also want to know what you can offer BESIDES grades. I've met amazing, motivated people here who I know are not only going to be successful, but going to make a difference in the world. I've also met mediocre people who slide by, getting good grades but not giving the "learning" all they're got. Yes, we have fun, but it tends to be more low key fun. We have Towson and Hopkins for giant frat parties, Goucher tends to be people hanging out, enjoying each other's company.
