Towson Dining

There are plenty of affordable restaurants nearby and many of them accept our schools "one card" which is convenient. There are 8 colleges within a ten mile radius so many places are very college friendly and the food is reasonably priced.

General Campus Weather

Lots of warm weather around campus. Usually holds out pretty well in the fall semester. Ocassional snowfall and cancellation of classes. Professors freak-out with inch of snow and can get off from class pretty easily even if it's only a few inches. Some bizarre weather lately though. Can be really warm one day and cold the next. Bring all sets of clothing. Can never tell these days...Damn global warming.

70 / 30 Girls to Guys Ratio

There is a 70 / 30 ratio of girls to guys on campus. A lot of guys take advantage of this, which is really not cool. Especially on such a small campus. Most Goucher students are quirky and eccentric. Don't expect to find frat bros or sorority girls !

Dorms Pretty Good

Freshmen dorms aren't actually that bad. Yes, some have cinderblock walls, but if you get into Sondheim, the substance free house, you get massive rooms and private bathrooms. Several of the best houses are female only. Guys want to get into an apartment or a suite in the T, although a single in Mary Fisher is also a good call.

Two Operating Systems

Every academic building has a computer lab, but the library is the only one that is open 24/7.

We have Macs and PCs that run both operating systems. So if you can only find a Mac and want a PC, you can run Windows on it. We get 500 printing points a semester. Print double sided and thats 1000 sheets of paper. The only problem is the printers are often out of ink and very busy.

No One Cares About You, Only Your Money.

The school gets almost all of their money from the insanely high cost of tuition, which is not nearly worth it by the way. They pretend to care in order to keep you from transferring, but they don't even do a good job of that. Don't go to Goucher.

You Will Get Busted for Stupid Minor S***

You will most likely get busted by Robo-cop at somepoint during your stay here, either for loudness, or too many people, or because you were drinking a glass of wine in the presence of you almost 21 year old roommate. Vandalism goes on your bill, and the person responsible usually goes free.

Financial Aid Was Very Helpful

I would not have been able to attend Goucher if not for the amazing scholarships and other financial aid I received. Some semesters I didn't get quite as much as I needed and would have benefited from more financial aid, but I was able to work it out and overall I am satisfied with the amount of aid I received. All of the financial aid workers are very helpful.

Diversity Could Be Better

There is not a lot of diversity overall on campus, as far as I can tell the majority of the students are middle class, white and liberal. However, most of the students seem very accepting of others who are different from themselves.

New Rules, Less Parties

They have gotten more strict recently on loud parties and the use of alcohol, but that was mostly in reaction to many students being taken to the hospital for alcohol related issues as well as a spike in drunken vandalism. I think currently the strictness is moderate, but the social/party scene on the weekends has definitely started to fizzle as a result of these new rules.

Good Security

Aside from the occasional vandalism here and there, campus is generally quite. Public Safety makes rounds 24/7 and is always on call. There is a blue light system on campus but I've never heard of someone actually needing to use it. PS is quick to escort unwanted visitors off campus if they need to.

Cheap and Collegey

Towson circle has a good variety of ethnic food, and american classics. That being said, it's marketed towards college students, so it's cheap, but not top notch.

I Love It Here

Goucher has an amazing community. It is so easy to meet people and fit in. The social life and academics make the school an overall great place to be. When I stepped onto the beautiful campus, i knew I could see myself here. Everyone was waving to each other and smiling to me during my tour. I immediately felt at home at Goucher.

A Walking Distance from Great Shopping and a Bus Ride Away from Baltimore

It is important to realize that Goucher is not in Baltimore as it's address suggests. It is in fact in Towson which is actually a nice town with some attractions of its own. Towson has several grocery stores within walking distance, including a Trader Joe's, many ethnic restaurants, and of course the Towson Town Center which is the largest mall in Maryland. It is possible to take the collegetown shuttle into Baltimore for free, but be warned: it is liable to be late or fail to arrive at scheduled times.

Pretty Darn Good.

I always find a spot in the morning, and luckily our campus is not very big, so a walk to class from the visitor's lot is 5 minutes, tops. The fact that you have to register your car as a student even though you don't live on campus is the only detracting factor.

Hit and Miss (But Mostly Hit)

There are certainly professors here that are absolute gems, but a few are questionable choices. I'm very satisfied with the teachers I've had, though I've head many a horror story about others. For a small school, we have a good variety of majors and programs, and the Baltimore Student Exchange Program certainly helps. Workload is very doable and very writing intensive. The office hours are reasonable as well, and the professors are good about empathizing with students.

Off-Campus Dining

There are several great places to eat around Goucher College. They range from very affordable to expensive. They are very easy to get to, and some of them have great student discounts. My personal favourite is Strapazza Pizza.

Public safety is only a call away at all times and they are SO helpful. Don't be afraid to notify them or fill out a silent witness report if you see something sketchy happening. I feel very safe here on campus.

Overall Fine

The dorms are nice. Air conditioning in all of the dorms would be nice but is not a major problem. Stimson is gross and should be rennovated. Everything is fairly close so it doesn't take too long to get from one place to another.

Definitely Where I'm Meant to Be

Goucher is a wonderful atmosphere. Like any college, it has its issues but overall my classes are engaging, my professors are helpful, and the campus is beautiful. The Athenaeum (the library) is opened 24/7 which is wonderful.

Know Money

My only advice is to go through the process with someone who understands money, scholarships, grants etc. Neither me or my mom are very good at that, so it got confusing. I was a good student in high school, so I got scholarships and grants and loans based on that. College is expensive, but the people at Goucher are more than willing to sit down and help explain things if you need it.

Towson Is Not Too Exciting but Baltimore Is Just Around the Corner

Towson is a nice, safe area, teeming with college students from both Goucher and Towson University. There are a few good places to eat around campus, like Towson Hot Bagels and Kathmandu Kitchen. You can also find pretty much everything you may need in Towson, without walking for more than 15 or 20 minutes. There are tons of convenient stores (and a huge mall if you are into that kind of shopping). Also on Thursdays there is a nice farmers market. For those into quirky finds there is a cute vintage/consignment store close to campus. Towson may be a little sleepy but it is a convenient place for a college student to live. But even more importantly, Towson is incredibly close to Baltimore (15 minutes or so). There are multiple cost efficient ways to get into the city without taking a car. Baltimore itself is a fantastic city to have nearby. There are lots of funky restaurants and cafes, dance and music clubs, and opportunities for community service and internships. The inner Harbor is a popular area for students to visit, but there are many other lesser-known areas and places to explore. It's true that Baltimore is not the safest city, so its important to be aware and consider traveling with a friend if not familiar with the area. Otherwise, as long as you are smart about where you go, Baltimore is a fantastic place to be around. The city also is home to students from more than three other colleges and Universities.

Very Safe

This is a very safe campus. To my knowledge, there is only a little bit of petty theft among students which is not unique to this campus. This campus has the friendliest students in the world. *As a small caveat, one night a few drunken students committed about $500 worth of damage to my car and I was not compensated for it.
