Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

Grambling State University is an accredited HBCU that is full of opportunities—you just have to be ready take advantage of them. The University has a good academic reputation and an influx of companies—including IBM, Tyson, and Wal-Mart—come to recruit students annually. These companies offer internships, as well as full-time positions to students who fit their requirements. The social life at Grambling State is satisfactory. There are several party venues, and Plush is 5 minutes from campus. Other than that, the Yard is always a fun place to be between classes. You’ll regularly see the fraternities and sororities hanging out on the Yard and there will sometimes even be a stroll off. There are dorm parties every weekend, as well as off-campus parties. However, sometimes you’ll need to drive a bit, so a car is a necessity.

Some people say Grambling State is horrible because of its location, but if you know the right people who can tell you where all the fun is and if you have a form of transportation, you’ll be fine. The overall experience is good and acceptable for a university of its size. There are wonderful experiences just waiting for you to explore them.

Limited Funds Are Discouraging

For my freshman year, the financial assistance I received was reliable. However, due to major budget cuts there is a very limited scholarship opportunity.
