Grambling State University is a historically black university that offers tons of academic programs in four undergraduate colleges. GSU is probably best known for its nursing, computer science, and education programs. The professors here are generally interested in the subjects they teach and are accessible to students seeking additional help. Some weaknesses of the University are that the class registration process can be a little slow and frustrating and the classroom buildings could use an update.
The University offers a First Year Experience program to help new students adjust to college life. The program includes an orientation, academic counseling, and a year-long seminar. The first part of the seminar helps to introduce first-year students to GSU’s general education requirements, the registration process, and survival skills, like time management, note taking, test taking, and best ways to use the library. The second part of the seminar helps students with computer skills and provides tips for stress management, personal finances, and building positive relationships.
