The Grambling State campus has a mix of new and old buildings. Many of the academic buildings are older, while newer facilities include some of the dorms and the Intramural Center. In the past, students were not satisfied with the condition of the dorms, and many students actually left the University because of this to go elsewhere. After that, GSU contracted a private company to construct new dormitories, which now house hundreds of students.
The gym is in good condition and has plenty of machines and workout equipment. The gym is also the place to catch an aerobics class, which are held Monday through Thursday. The Assembly Center and the Performing Arts Center are recently built state-of-the-art buildings that students, lecturers, and clubs can utilize. The Student Counseling Center is home to the Serenity Room, which offers state-of-the-art massage chairs where students can go to relax.
Not all buildings are well maintained, and since the state has cut the school’s budget and continues to decrease funds made available to the school, it will affect future renovation projects. The school library is out of date and does not meet students’ needs. There are plans to build a new library, but this will take some time to manifest into reality.
