I have never seen anyone take drugs, but I have heard stories of students either "shooting it up" or "snorting something," but it is not evident , just word of the mouth.

The campus is strict in the sense that it is trying to have high moral standards. The campus police and advisers are just trying to keep their students safe and out of harm's way - I see no harm in the campus just trying to protect it's students.

My dorm is so far from campus and when it snows or rains and it is a huge pain to walk to all my classes when I am either freezing or wet.
College Freshman 2013-12-06T05:50:31Z
The housing off campus is still relatively close to the school and some of the apartments are cheaper than the traditional dorms on campus. Free parking and laundromat is a plus, too.

Communications as a major is pretty interesting. There are many job opportunities and internships available because communications embodies the entire world. With the rise of social media, many companies are looking for graduates that keep up with the ever changing world.

The professors at my college are simply amazing! They put time aside to help students and to offer fun and engaging materials to look over. The curriculum is interesting and has classes that really makes students think. The registration process was easy, the workload is just the same as high school - you still need to do all the work to understand the material and to pass - and the school offers tutors for every single subject on campus! I seriously love my school!

After changing from pre-med to education I absolutely love it! If I could choose to start all over and start out as an education major I would! The professors are awesome and are super willing to help.

To be honest you really don't see drugs or alcohol on campus. The most prominent thing would be hookah but that isn't illegal nor is it really a "drug". Life is perfectly fine if you don't do it and there is zero peer pressure.

Food on campus is alright. There are typically really long lines and the menu repeats itself from week to week.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:33:24Z
Financial aid has been a huge pain in the butt! If you plan to take summer classes pay with cash or it will mess everything up! But the staff tries to be as helpful as possible to make things right.

Grand Valley's football team is one of the best in the state and the whole school knows it. The student section is large for the size of the campus as well as the facility. Intramural sports are popular for people that played in high school but didn't think that they could make it onto a college team.

Printing is free on campus! There are a few computer labs around campus as well as quite a bit of computers in the library. The network depending on where you are on campus is great but it can be lagging if you are far from the main part of campus. It is nice to have your own computer and printer since the amount of snow that we get leaving your dorm/apartment late at night is not fun.

I do not typically go out. Since I am the legal drinking age I do not find it to be entertaining to go out and watch stupid drunk people.

Health & Safety:
Campus police are typically driving around campus but do not tend to be like a hawk on your shoulders. The crime rate in Allendale is very low and Grand Rapids isn't really a super dangerous city. Also if you need them campus police is typically there rather quickly.

Just be prepared for heat and A LOT of snow!

It is like any typical college town. There are a few McDonalds and Burger Kings but most of them are at least a five to ten minute drive from campus and they are not that healthy. We do have jimmy johns but it is a little bit more expensive than the typical chain restaurants.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:14:43Z
The off-campus housing is great. There are many different types ranging from apartments to condos and trailers. The bad part about the housing though is that they are not the greatest of prices but most of the places will accept financial aid.
College Sophomore 2013-12-05T04:11:45Z
Grand Valley is very diverse in its student body. Most of the time it isn't even obvious as to what many of the students are regarding everything besides national origin and ethnic heritage and even these are not that obvious.
College Sophomore 2013-12-04T01:49:15Z
Living on campus is great. You really never have to deal with the police unless you have a parking violation. Most drinking and drug use is outside of campus so it isn't to bad. It can get loud in the dorms during the weekend but it really isn't to bad during the week.
College Sophomore 2013-12-04T01:46:28Z
I am not in a sorority so I am not sure exactly how it is
College Sophomore 2013-12-04T01:45:02Z
Grand Valley's main campus is in Allendale which is about 20 minutes from Grand Rapids and Grandville. It is super college friendly because there are two campuses. There are two malls that are both about 20 minutes away. We are also 30 minutes away from Lake Michigan so during the summer the beach is super close to cool off at.
College Sophomore 2013-11-28T17:09:56Z
There is definitely drug/alcohol use on campus, but we are technically considered a "dry" campus. Although I know a few people partaking in these recreational activities on campus, it is more noticeable among students off campus.
College Sophomore 2013-11-28T17:08:20Z
Parking in general is decent, but be prepared to walk. There is a dual campus and free busing between campuses, so a car is not necessary, unless you have a job outside of the bus route. Parking availability varies. Permits seem a bit steep in cost, but every student gets 20 parking passes/semester which can be used themselves or visitors. Tickets aren't too bad - $20/violation.
College Freshman 2013-11-25T21:47:21Z
The dorms are a decent size and are usual surrounded by a few more dorm buildings. The cost is pretty average and the social atmosphere really just depends on what type of people are on your floor.

Being in Michigan, be prepared for any weather possible. The winters are cold and the summer is hot.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
