Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Not every student at Grand Valley is a sports fan, but those who are into athletics are not disappointed. The varsity teams, especially football, are very successful, and the football team has earned consecutive Directors' Cups. Lubbers Stadium is relatively large, but it still gets packed for every football game. The student section has a limited capacity, but many students leave by halftime, which frees up seats.

Athletic fields and facilities are plentiful on campus. Students who want to exercise regularly will appreciate the variety of exercise machines available at the Fieldhouse, which also has a climbing center, aquatic center, an indoor track, and basketball courts. You will also see many students jogging on the many wide sidewalks on campus. Grand Valley also has outdoor tennis, basketball, baseball, soccer, and volleyball courts open for student use. Many of these are located near the Fieldhouse, but there are some volleyball and basketball courts near the residence halls. The turf building has a large track, turf field, and multi-purpose rooms.

Fairly Good Athletic Program

Grand Valley football has won multiple Division 2 championships which is the headliner for the most part. Grand Valley's track team and soccer teams also do very well for the most part. From there it drops off, the basketball team is fairly mediocre but have a decent program giving the players good benefits.

Go Lakers!

Grand Valley is obsessed with its sports team. There is already a field house, a private golf course, several fields, and a gym/sports complex. The school plans to build a new field with a large stadium sometime soon as well.

Athletic Facilities

The athletic facilities at Grand Valley are the best. The gym is huge and is supplied with plenty of equipment. Everything from the pool to the climbing wall to the elevated track is great to have.

School Spirit

Grand Valley students and alumni are proud of their school. One of the most popular events is Battle of the Valleys, which is a competition between Saginaw Valley State University and Grand Valley. Each school collects as much money as possible for a local charity, and the school with the most donations at the end of the week wins. The battle ends with a football game between the two schools.

Getting Tickets

Tickets can be purchased at the athletic ticket office, and the 20/20 desk in Kirkhof has a limited amount of tickets, depending on the sport. There are usually tickets available at the games, as well. Student tickets are cheaper by a few dollars.

Best Place to Take a Walk

Through the ravines behind campus. It's great for hiking and walking to see the scenery, and you can walk all the way to the Grand River behind campus.
