Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Parking on GVSU's campus is like one big video game. Depending on what time of day it is, what day it is, and class schedules, a student can either find success in a great parking spot or a terrible one. Parking around housing is not too bad, with none of the parking spaces being too far away. Parking near the Kirkhof Center is almost impossible between the hours of 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. (this is when parking in that lot is free).

Be warned, though! Do not park where you are not supposed to. You might just get away without a ticket once, but sooner or later, there will be a very annoying orange sticker on your window telling you that you owe DPS Campus Security money. Some students never learn and walk away with 10-plus tickets a year.

Available Parking However Not Convenient Parking

There are always spots available on campus however it seems there are a few available close spots to all the buildings and housing. However if you do not get those you have to park very far and search in different lots to find a spot. If you are not in a correct lot though you will get a parking ticket in under twenty minutes.

Awesome!

There is a lot of parking for students that live on campus and for students that live off campus. The parking passes are kind of expensive (around $120 a semester), but you will never have to park more then a five minutes walk from any academic building.

Getting a Parking Permit

Permits are required to park on the Allendale and Pew campuses, but not at the other GVSU campuses. Note: if you take classes at the Allendale and Pew campuses, your permit is valid at both, so no need to buy two permits! Permits can be picked up at the Public Safety office on the Allendale campus. Permits can also be purchased online.
