Additional Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Emphasize what makes you unique.
  • Have good grades.
  • Participate in an interview.
  • Visit the school.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Bring a bike.
  • Departments can be picky about which AP and IB credits you can actually use to skip prerequisites or count for your major.
  • Don't be afraid to talk to the professors.
  • If you really, really need an extension, ask for it.
  • Make friends with the people on your floor-they're the most convenient people to go to for a sympathetic ear or pester when you're procrastinating.
  • No matter how smart you are, there will be a lot of people at the College who are smarter than you.
  • The workload can be killer.
Interviews & Information Sessions
During information sessions, an admissions counselor will discuss with prospective students and their families important information about the Grinnell experience. There is also a Q&A session. The information sessions are available Monday through Friday and on some Saturdays during the school year. In terms of interviews, they aren't required, but students can definitely schedule one.
Campus Tours
Campus tours are conducted by a current student, giving prospective students the opportunity to pose questions about the Grinnell experience to someone who's experiencing it firsthand.
Overnight Visits
High school seniors can stay overnight with Grinnell students in a residence hall, getting the full college living experience. Through the overnight experience, prospective students also often get to attend a club meeting, a play, or another campus event. The overnight policy and release form must be completed and returned to the Office of Admission at least three days prior to a student's scheduled visit.
Did You Know?
You can visit campus as a prospective student ("prospie") and stay a weekend in the dorms with real students, many of which were in your position just a year ago.
