Grinnell is going through a revamping of its facilities. Dedicated in 2008, the Noyce Science Center (named after Grinnell alum/inventor of the microchip Robert Noyce '49) is fully stocked. From a modern greenhouse on the top floor to nuclear research facilities, science majors never need to search for opportunities to experiment.

The next major project was the construction of the modern Harris Center. Most of the multicultural club offices, an art gallery, and the Grinnell radio station KDIC are in this building. New buildings have been built in a completely different style from that of Grinnell’s older Gothic architecture, and rather than the red and black brick stonework that decorates most of North and South Campus (there are few things that look cooler than gargoyles over the doors), a newer, more modern apparatus will line the walls of campus facilities and eateries. Even in Iowa, college campuses inevitably change with the times. Other campus hubs like the Joe Rosenfield '25 Center house everything from the Spencer Grill to the Crady Mail Room to the many many administrative facilities.

Exceeds Expectations

The thing about Grinnell is it has an absurd endowment. Money is no issue and the facilities reflect that. The library is great, the athletic center is fantastic, the arts building has more pianos than there are people who can play them, etc.

Most of the facilities are very nice and new. The admissions building, student center, athletic center, science center and one-third of the dorms have all been built very recently.

BEAUTIFUL

The Campus facilities at Grinnell great, all the buildings are impeccable. The nicest buildings on campus include the JRC, Noyce, and the Bear. All of these buildings are pretty new, greatly upkept and modern architecture.

"Green" Initiatives

The dining hall, the Alumni Recitation Hall (ARH), and dorms all have recycling amenities. The sports buildings all have green-engineered lighting, too.

Favorite Things To Do

Many students take advantage of the free movies in Harris and in the South Lounge of the Forum on weekends. Plays (also free) are put on by both the College theater department and an independent theatre group, but tickets (which can usually be found at the box office in Bucksbaum) tend to go rather quickly. The numerous bands that Grinnell brings to the stage also tend to attract a large crowd.

When you need to take a break from studying, there are pool tables in the Harris Center and the Forum, art shows at Faulconer Gallery in Bucksbaum, and frequent concerts including classical, student, and professional performances. Punk bands from across the nation are booked regularly.

Did You Know? A student-led committee receives a budget to book concerts for the entire year.
