Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Grinnell administration prides itself in making the College a residential one, so it tries to discourage students from living off campus as much as possible. Students aren’t permitted to live off campus until junior year, and in the past, off-campus College-owned houses have been removed in order to make room for other facilities. Students who choose to live off campus must have written permission from the Student Affairs office.

Unfortunately, the options for renting apartments are fairly limited. There are a few landlords who own houses converted into apartments, and while these are often a bit rundown, they do offer extra possibilities for partying. Living off campus on High Street in particular carries responsibilities to sponsor and encourage partying. Most importantly, the houses are within a few blocks from campus.

Not Great During Winter Time

There are not that many options and it is difficult to get permission to live off campus. The convenience of living off campus is not that great, especially in the winter time. Most students prefer to live on campus because of the proximity to academic buildings and the availability of information on what is happening on campus. Grinnell is generally a very safe area.

Off-Campus

I lived in a house on high st my junior year. It is fun to have your own house and the rent is fairly cheap. Just don't sign a lease before you get approved for off-campus housing. Also it sucks paying bills and cleaning your whole house!
