Overall ExperienceWhat's This?

A vast majority of Grinnell students love it. Students who choose to come here love the challenge they get from academia and their peers, and they love the amount of freedom that the administration gives them (mostly through self-governance). Grinnell students are free to learn and grow into responsible, conscientious adults, and the students here are thankful that the school they’ve chosen has given them the opportunity to thrive. Some students can’t even imagine what it would be like if they’d ended up somewhere else.

Yeah, Grinnell students complain sometimes about the things that aren’t available to them that would be at their disposal at a larger, city school. We gripe about excess construction, bogus administration policies, and the things that fellow Grinnellians do that just plain bug everyone. Overall, though, most of the students here are happy with the decisions they’ve made and the direction they’re going in their lives, and a lot of them have the Grinnell faculty, students, and townspeople to thank for that. Although living in rural Iowa does take some getting used to (especially if you’re from out-of-state), most students don’t mind making Grinnell their home for four years. Despite the schizophrenic weather, lackluster athletic program, and the immature townies, many students have taken comfort in the fact that it’s “just us” here amongst the cornstalks. When a Grinnell graduate thinks back upon his or her Grinnell experience and all the fond memories that come along with it, everything else seems like small potatoes.

Grinnell is very unique in its embrace of people who are unique. My time at Grinnell was definitely a time to celebrate my quirks.

Grinnell is great with helping you to find intern and externships. In my junior year I found one near my home in chicago and grinnell funded it! The internship was unpaid and required 10 weeks and fulltime to be funded.

Beautiful campus. New science, athletic, and student buildings. Top of the line facilities and aesthetics....in the spring semester.

Grinnell College Drug Safety was reviewed by gargs714
B

Though drugs and alcohol are quite prevalent on campus, everyone places the safety of the student body above all else; there's absolutely no pressure to use drugs/drink. Any time situations are at risk of getting out of hand, students generally use self-gov to make it a safe environment.

Grinnell College Athletics was reviewed by gargs714

The teams are all very good. In fact, just recently the Grinnell basketball team scored 138 points in a game - a record! Cross country, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, and many other teams generally consistently place well at conferences. The only problem is that the student body is not very involved with the athletics at Grinnell.

The students on the athletic teams are extremely involved in athletics. There is great team spirit, just the school doesn't pay much attention as a whole. Well... Except for basketball. A lot of students actually care about that.
