Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Currently, both on campus and in the town of Grinnell, there are no public transportation stops or facilities. There really isn’t any need for them, since it takes about five to 10 minutes to walk from one end of campus to the other, and 20 or 30 minutes to bike out of town. However, there are plans to revive the fondly-remembered-but-unsuccessful Campus Bikes program. These bikes used to be designated by a thin coat of orange spray paint. They were unlocked and available for public use all over campus. Unfortunately, they were quickly trashed, but the campus has decided to bring them back using better, less fragile bikes.

As for transportation to and from Grinnell, Greyhound stops are not available in the town of Grinnell, but they are prevalent in Des Moines. However, most students who live more than a state away fly into the Des Moines International Airport and take the shuttle for $20, courtesy of the security department, to Grinnell. Shuttles also go to and from the Minneapolis and Chicago airports each break. If students have an emergency and need a ride out to the Des Moines airport in the middle of the year, arrangements can be made with the security department.

Close Town

There is a shuttle that runs to the far away stores (Iowa City and Des Moines) every week. On breaks there are shuttles that run to the airport in Des Moines. In the town most people just walk, as it is just across the street from the campus.

Can't Get Away

Nearly impossible to get away, even for break. The college runs 1 or 2 shuttles per day to DSM, none to CID. Flying anywhere will cost close to $400 round trip. One Greyhound line runs through town with infrequent and slow service. No train available.
