Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Close your eyes and imagine a place where students leave laptop computers unattended in the library, don’t lock their dorm rooms, and misplaced ID cards are returned before they are even discovered missing. Open your eyes—no, it’s not Eden, just Grove City College. Of course, the college strongly suggests keeping valuables under key, but many students don’t feel the need to watch their stuff very closely. Petty thefts have occurred on campus, but the fact remains that GCC is a safe place—day or night. In the women’s residence halls, all doors except the lobbies are locked and alarmed at 9 p.m. After midnight (or 1 a.m. on the weekends), male student security guards secure the dorms and check student IDs in the women’s residence halls. Some women are inconvenienced and frustrated by the double standard, but most feel more secure, and it is no surprise that sexual assault is a foreign concept at Grove City College.

GCC security guards maintain a visible presence on campus and are friendly. However, some students have registered complaints about slow responses to car troubles. Security services like dusk-to-dawn escorts and RAD courses ensure basic safety. The Zerbe Health Center offers a free health service through a local doctor. If a student urgently needs more than a friendly smile, homemade chicken soup, and cough drops, the best bet is to head over to the local hospital. In case of emergency, campus security willingly transports students to the emergency room at the local hospital.

Safety

On Grove City College campus there is always a campus safety personnel on duty. These employees are very kind and are willing to assist at all times, even if that means walking you out to your car. There are blue emergency phones scattered throughout campus that anyone can use if needed. The lighting in the parking lots is also great and makes me feel completely safe alone.

Safest Place in the World

You can "claim" a spot in any building on campus and leave it there without having to worry that someone will take your belongings. There is never a need to lock the door, everyone is very trusting.
