College Prowler Take
If clubbing and bar life define the collegiate experience, most Grovers live undefined lives. The College encourages an environment where partying, drunkeness, and drug use are minimized. In a township without bars or clubs, partying students must make an effort to support their habit. Underage drinking is strictly prohibited, but many older students drive 15 minutes away to enjoy a responsible off-campus drink. Still, the average Grover doesn’t play drinking games and has never gotten drunk. College policy does not allow alcohol at private off-campus parties, so determined partiers will drive about 30 minutes to an undisclosed location to escape notice. If the administration is alerted to an event and the partiers are Greeks, the sorority or fraternity will temporarily lose their charter. Even partiers hardly appreciate the local bar scene. They feel it lacks youth and class and appeals to “redneck” locals. Looking for a nightclub scene? A 60-mile drive to Pittsburgh presents several options. Just don’t plan on faking an ID. Residential assistants are hired to enforce the rules, so if they overhear a conversation about “fakes,” they are required to dissuade or report you. Most Grovers find enough weekend good times without alcohol. Campus activities like dances, concerts, pizza parties, or ice cream socials offer a good excuse to leave the books behind. Students might invite friends up to their room during inter-visitation for a movie or games. Grove City College has a minimal nightlife scene, but most students enjoy finding other things to do to have a good time.

I am not aware of any bars or clubs off campus in Grove City. If someone wanted to drive to Pittsburgh or another nearby town, I’m sure they could find bars and clubs. I am sure that there is some partying that goes on among Grove City College students, but I am not a part of that whole scene. |

The parties on campus are non-existent or lame for the most part. Lively ‘hot-spots’ in the area are hard to find, although Elephant & Castle and Benjamin’s usually provide a decent scene, especially Thursday nights at Benjamin’s ($1 Yuenglings) and Monday nights at E & C ($2 bottles). |

What parties? Bars? Clubs? You’ll have to head to Pittsburgh to find any of that. Actually, there are parties on campus, mostly sponsored by campus organizations. It’s hit or miss—sometimes they’re really great, sometimes you’d rather be in your dorm staring at the painted cinder block wall. |

No drinking games and one-night...
No drinking games and one-night stands, just laughs and camaraderie among students. Benjamin’s, located about 20 minutes from campus, is the classic GCC bar. On some nights, especially Thursdays, more Grovers than locals will be there enjoying dollar drafts or two dollar Guinness. Elephant & Castle is a bit closer and has a regular college crowd, especially for their $2 bottle nights. Rachel’s still has a bar scene, but Grovers have been less welcome lately due to a few getting out of hand. For the more serious drinkers, the Mustang (just down the road from Benjamin’s) is a popular spot. |

For all practical purposes, there...
For all practical purposes, there are no campus ‘parties’ in the sense most people think of campus parties. Most student get-togethers on campus consist of some combination of movies, board games, and pizza. Basically, if you’re going to college more for the parties than the education, Grove City is definitely not for you. While there is an active underground scene of campus drinking and such (despite the rules), it barely shows up on the social scene, if at all. One must go an hour to Pittsburgh for the club scene, but there are several bars frequented by Grovers. The drinking scene among GCC students is a prevalent, but reserved one. |
