Varsity sports are a sore point with the college and those who attend. Although varsity sports participants represent a significant part of the college population, few come to Guilford just to play sports. Several seniors even admit having never attended a sporting event.
Although Admissions has been recruiting an increasing number of varsity sports players, there still is a lingering rift on campus. The separation and friction is not as bad as it used to be, in part helped by the efforts of Student Senate and Student Activities to urge game attendance with special events and promotions. The popular club sports have increased the overlap of more of the student population supporting organized competitive recreational activities. Many different types of students love and enjoy their club sports, in part because of the decreased social strain.

Division 3 School
Atheletics are a small part of Guilford considering it is a division 3 school. No scholarships for those who play sports. The workout facilities are amazing though, and if you choose to play for fun and not titles you will enjoy being here.

The Quakers
they do well above what one would expect from a division III school.

Basketball, bowling, ultimate Frisbee, rugby The most popular sports are the club sports, since most of the campus doesn’t really support varsity sports. Football and other games are attended, but generally by other sports players. However, Guilford students really love their recreational Frisbee—it is one of the quickest growing clubs on campus. Also, bowling off campus once a week at a discounted price has also become rather popular, and it has some devoted fans.
The women’s basketball team games are actually pretty exciting and include some very talented athletes
The nickname of the Fighting Quakers is an oxymoron in itself, due to the fact that Quakers have traditionally been a non-violent people. One amusing cheer includes: “Fight! Fight Inner-light! Kill! Quakers, Kill!” School spirit is high, but not necessarily visible in the ways one might expect. Students love being on campus during Serendipity. Guilford students don’t express their school spirit in terms of attending sporting events, but rather as critical and concerned members of the school’s community. Nearly all students are supportive of clubs and organizations and community involvement. Most Guilford graduates are proud of their degree when they feel that they’ve actually worked for it. Everyone loves the campus and spends time outside enjoying the surroundings. Guilford big oak tree logo is normally seen on cars, clothing, etc., but not always in support of sports teams, but the college instead.
Most events are free to students, as well as alumni most of the time. It is extremely easy to get in to any sporting events that you desire. The only time tickets have been hard to get is when the women’s basketball team was doing really well. Guilford College Sports Hotline: (336) 316-2500 (ext. 4107), 24 hours a day.
There are walking paths and trails throughout the Guilford-owned woods.
