Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Many first-year students agree that if there were any way to get off of the meal plan, then they would do so in a heartbeat. However, others say that Guilford’s fare is quite edible—at the very least tolerable—for cafeteria food, most notably because of the diverse selection. Both food and service have been getting progressively better throughout the years, despite outsourcing to Sodexho and a reduction in dining hall hours. There is always at least one hot vegan and one vegetarian option per meal, as well as available soymilk and a salad bar for lunch and dinner. It can be horrible, but any attempt to mass-produce food is usually futile. With what is provided, you can attempt to eat somewhat healthy, or just eat pizza and drink soda every single meal.
Make sure to read the health labels for ingredients that might not suit your dietary needs/concerns—you can’t always tell what they throw into those casseroles. What makes most people hate the Caf is the daily visits and recurring similar foods. Breakfast, especially brunch on the weekends, is worth trying to get up for—the mass amount of greasy food will cure your appetite from lack of sleep (or too much partying the night before). There are options to have fewer meals and coffeeshop credits, but you still pay the same amount despite the plan you choose. Recently, Caf workers have been abnormally strict in not allowing food (other than fruit and bagels) out of the Caf. So, remember to give yourself enough time to gobble down a sandwich or a slice of pizza between classes.

Fantastic Food

You can get a great deal of variety each meal and every day, it's all you can eat for the price, and no matter your food preferences, it's got something for everyone.

It's a Cafeteria..But We Have a Farm

merriweather godsey definitely tries, and most people can find what they are looking for, whether it's vegan options and delicious veggies from the farm, or meat and potatoes. If you write a request on a comment card, they will listen!

The Caf, the Grill, and the Q

The dining on campus is generally not great, but at least there are a few options. The best food at the caf is mac & cheese, and the best meal they serve is the brunch on weekends. The Grill is fun to hang out at, but there aren't a whole lot of options and the meals get repetitive (good smoothies, though!). The Quakeria (the new pizzeria on campus) isn't wonderful, but the calzones are pretty good and the portions are large.
