Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although most students feel very safe at Guilford, it is not necessarily because of the present security measures, but rather the side of town on which campus is located. Security is fairly visible, especially on the weekends. The campus is open (not fenced/walled), but few outside the Guilford community (or friends) wander randomly onto or through campus. The sidewalks throughout main campus are well-lit at night. In general, both males and females alike feel safe. Many say they have never felt threatened while walking alone, day or night. Many students claim to feel perfectly safe walking alone across campus in the middle of the night or early morning. Main campus has areas that are fairly open, so it is easy to see anyone coming. Despite the lack of lighting, students also feel safe walking around in the woods at night, even after watching the Blair Witch Project.
More students have issues with Security’s response time for various calls, and some even feel violated by Security’s watchful eye. A common complaint is that Security arrives quickly to break up parties, but takes longer when other, perhaps more serious, events occur. However, with the newer officers, response time has been greatly improving even for standard calls. Most Guilford students believe that the officers themselves are courteous, polite, and generally reasonable, but are against the Campus Life officials that use Security to enforce its rules and policies.

Campus Overal Safety

Overall the campus is very safe. However, in the past year there have been some incidents that could have been resolved at an earlier time however, were not addressed until the incidents escalated.

Hippies Feel Safe Enough to Leave Their Doors Unlocked

The hippies leave their doors unlocked but I guess that's because the normal kids worry about the "hips" so I guess the hippies have nothing to worry about. But yes the hippies here will steal your stuff
