Somewhat Disappointing

I waited a year after graduating high school to sign up for college and therefor do not qualify for many scholarships. The financial aid offered at Gulf Coast will only let someone be declared "independent" if they are over 23, have been in the military before, have children, are married, or a few other things. I am 18 and pay my own bills and am self-supportive, but am unable to get aid from my school because when evaluated they look at my parents taxes, and not mine, even though they wouldn't be assisting me in paying.

Need Aid? Financial Aid.

At a community college, tuition is quite reasonable for the amount of classes I take a semester. Financial aid's process is quite simple as long as you have all the correct information gathered. The aid office does not guide you unless you ask for guidance; which I believe is acceptable only because we are adults and that is what responsibilities are. If you need assistance, they will be there to help you. The biggest tip is to have everything done ASAP! First come first serve and less of a hassle when school comes around and your paper work is late so you're asking for other issues! Avoid that if you can!
