College Prowler Take
The rumors are true: Gustavus has a good-looking campus. Men and women are attractive here, and prospective date-hunters can take comfort in the fact that the dating pool is wide open. Whether you are looking for a buff athlete, a latte-sipping hipster, a God-fearing Bible-thumper, the fraternity or sorority coed, a band dork, the boy or girl next door, the strikingly beautiful, or the tech guru, Gustavus offers them all. And whether Gusties find a guy or girl similar to themselves or a polar opposite, the small social network on campus acts as a means to these hookups. Visitors from other schools usually have two questions: how did the school manage to attract this many good-looking students, and where are you hiding all the overweight ones? This means that Gusties are pretty concerned about appearances. Lund Arena is not only packed with students working out, but it also proves to be an excellent place for people-watching. Unfortunately, official statistics report that nearly one in four students have an eating disorder. And thanks to the close-knit community, Gusties do have to tread carefully with their dating rapport. Both serial monogamists and weekend floozies are labeled rather quickly, and breaking out of that label can be challenging. Gossip and drama run rampant on campus, so choose hookups carefully. While students from both genders can be snobby, pretentious, phony, or just downright dumb, the majority are quality individuals. Students Speak Out

Although there are more girls than guys, I feel that the guys that are here are pretty good. The students at Gustavus are a pretty attractive group of people. However, people always try to look good when the semester starts, but after that, it’s all downhill. |

FactsBirth Control Available?
Yes - Not only can students obtain free condoms from Peer Assistants, the Student Health Service, and Collegiate Fellows, but the Health Service also offers three-month starter packs of birth control pills for free before writing prescriptions. Morning-after pills are also offered at reduced prices.
Social Scene
While many students may still be intimidated by an apparent "popularity" status that many students seem to hold, there is very little hierarchy to the social scene at Gustavus. While some groups remain exclusive, rarely are parties ever closed to the general public, with the exception of many parties that occur during the Greek pledging period. The weekend social scene is the perfect opportunity to meet students that you wouldn't necessarily know otherwise: if really want to go to that kegger/house party/wine tasting/on-campus sober fun, show up, pay your cover charge if necessary, and have a good time!
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups seem to be more prevalent on campus, though it seems that girls are more in the market for a relationship, while the guys seem to be more inclined to date around. However, come your senior year, you will begin to wonder how you know so many people that are engaged.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Being a small school, it is advantageous that Gusties will see each other around campus nearly everyday. The places to meet boys and/or girls on campus are in classes, in the residence halls, or in one of the many different activities that you can involve yourself in on campus. There is never any need to stress over the good-looking girl that sits behind you and is “out of your league”; you are probably involved in another activity with her, as well, and if you’re not, it’s guaranteed that one of your friends will be. So take the chance, and ask her to be your lab partner, there’s a pretty high probability that she already knows your name.
Dress Code
Gustavus has often been called the "J.Crew campus" of all of the private colleges in Minnesota. Though sweatpants rule on the weekends, the majority of guys can be seen wearing cargo pants, button-down shirts, and baseball caps. The ladies are usually found in jeans and sweaters. Funky fashion statements are few and far between at Gustavus, with "it would totally stick out in small-town Minnesota" often cited as the reason why fun and trendy clothes are saved for weekend trips to the Twin Cities.
