Best Ways to Get to the Airport The Mankato Land-Air Shuttle will take you to the airport for about $35; otherwise, you need to find a willing friend or check out the Ride Board in the Campus Center to see if anyone is headed in that direction.

Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Here’s a rule to live by: Either own a car or know somebody that does. Being a small town located an hour south of a major metropolitan area, St. Peter lacks any form of convenient public transportation. The city offers St. Peter Transit, which will take students anywhere in town for $1, and the Student Senate managed to arrange free operation on weekend nights (e.g., the "Gus Bus") for students heading to “key drop-off points” (e.g., the bars). The only other way to get around town is by car, foot, or bike. For necessary trips into Mankato, find a ride or simply hope they have what you need at the grocery store down the hill. The College generally sponsors bus trips to the Twin Cities, where students can go shopping, check out a sporting event, or attend a play, but these usually only occur monthly.

Generally, St. Peter is small enough with businesses close to the College that walking usually isn't an issue for most students. For a ride to the airport, pick up a ticket at the Office of Student Activities or find a friend that is headed in the same direction as you. Also, check out the Ride Board located online, where students can make posts if they need a ride or if they would be willing to give one. Luckily, there is no restriction on which students can bring cars to campus, so if you are far away from home and can afford a parking permit, it would definitely be worth any hassle of having a car on campus.

Walk EVERYWHERE

One of the nice parts of a small campus is that no matter where you are, you're no farther than 10 minutes from any other place on campus. Walking is the main form of transportation around campus, but on weekends the GUS bus runs during the night to bring people off campus to parties. This is a much safer (and warmer, in the winter) alternative than trying to walk. Also, if you're injured, Campus Safety is more than willing to bring you around campus to classes and activities.

No Car Needed First Year

At GAC, you really don't need a car your first year on campus. GAC has pretty much everything you need. If you want to go to Mankato, chances are that almost all of your friends have a car on campus so you can just use one of those.
