Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As far as varsity sports are concerned, Hamilton students go all out. The intimate size of Hamilton means each student will have a friend, roommate, or classmate on each and every team. Friends are the main supporters of athletes, and friends are willing to come out and get fired up. A group called the Dog Pound is the most well known of group of supporters, though. It’s hard to miss their screaming and their brightly painted chests.

Intramural sports play a gigantic role in the social and athletic lives of most Hamilton students. Competition is high during these events, and during certain IM seasons, IM games are all you will hear about. The IM season is run by students, so it can become disorganized, but students make the most of it and have a great time.

What School Spirit?

Many people play sports but no one really cares to attend. The administration has been trying to build support for teams with "Hamilton Super Fan" shirts (oxymoron) but its not really the Hamilton way. People are aware of athletic contests and will go to support friends, but not because its the thing to do. Sure you can go to a football game (probably drunk) but they haven't had a record better than 2-6 in something like 15 years.

GREAT!!

There are tons of ways to get involved in athletics at Hamilton. In generally the student body is very active and students take part in all sorts of activities ranging from very competitive varsity to sports, to more relaxed club sports, to goofing around on the rock-climbing wall.

Most Popular Sports

Football, basketball, lacrosse, and hockey usually have the largest turnouts. Intramural sports are also very popular across campus.

Most Overlooked Teams

Volleyball experiences low attendance rates, and so does rugby. Both the men’s and women’s crew teams travel for hours to their regattas, so their presence is less visible to the campus. In general, women’s sports tend to have low attendance rates. However, close friends will stop by for support.

School Spirit

The Dog Pound is made up of students that want to support Hamilton sports, primarily basketball and football. Students dress up in Halloween costumes or they come bare-chested and painted in school colors. Nobody knows how to excite a crowd like the Dog Pound. Some have even gotten out and danced along with the dance team at halftime.

Getting Tickets

There is rarely a problem getting into a sporting event. The most popular event is the Citrus Bowl in Sage Rink, and for this hockey game, you definitely need to get there early. Also popular is the homecoming football game at Steuben Field.

Best Place to Take a Walk

The Root Glen, “G-Road Loop” (Most people run/jog this route when the weather is nice.)
