Being in a society is by no means necessary at Hamilton. Few parties are invite-only and even fewer are closed to the public. This leaves the vast majority open to the entire community, and the College does offer a variety of social spaces for alternative events sponsored by non-Greeks.

The fraternities do, however, dominate the Greek scene since they have the necessary support and funds for throwing a solid party. Weekends revolve around theme parties, and students will spend the week scouring the local mall and Salvation Army for the necessary pieces of their costume.Sororities are starting to gain some momentum when it comes to Hamilton's social life. As the number of sororities grows, so do the functions that are sponsored. The newer societies focus on public service while well-established sororities co-sponsor events with a fraternity. All in all, the Greek scene is what you make of it. Involvement depends entirely on the individual. There is little to no pressure to join. However, it is more popular for guys to join a fraternity than for girls to join sororities.
