Hamilton students work hard, but they play much harder. Every weekend all-campus parties are thrown by Greek societies, sports teams, and cultural organizations in one of four large social spaces on campus. These parties can become monotonous by the end of the semester, but despite the lack of diversity in social events, students look forward to theme parties. Certain events, such as the Farm Party, Heaven and Hell, and The New Year’s Party, are thrown annually and have earned reputations for being an especially good time. Off-campus parties and semi-formals provide for a much needed change from this scene. Host organizations shell out for school buses to bring people back and forth from campus throughout the night, greatly decreasing the possibility of drunk drivers making bad decisions. There are two bars downtown that draw a significant Hamilton crowd many nights of the week, although the same group of Greeks tends to be the dominate population. Most of the time, students realize their options and manage to make fun for themselves. Certain dorms are known for throwing parties. The suites in Milbank fill to the brim with students looking for a good time. South and Dunham always have something going on for the freshmen, and Carnegie is usually a good bet, too. Depending on the mood of the crowd, these parties can be anything from casual and quiet to an ‘80s dance party.

Hamilton hosts all-campus parties...
Hamilton hosts all-campus parties that will serve anyone a beer. But remember: Pregame hard, because the only thing you will be drinking when you are out are Keystone Lights. If you have a good fake or are legal, the best place to go is the Village Tavern in downtown Clinton. Hamilton runs shuttle buses from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. to the bars and back.

There are all-campus parties on campus, most with alcohol indirectly supplied by the College. The on-campus Little Pub is popular with those over 21. In downtown Clinton, your bar choices are limited to Don's Rock and the Village Tavern (VT).

School is too small for good nightlife
C+
There really aren't enough things to do at night on or off campus. You could go to the casino, but, well, it's a casino. Going to a Bundy or Annex party gets pretty repetitive after about a semester, and you really have to be drunk to enjoy yourself. If there is an off-campus party, the group throwing it usually offers transportation. However, most people stick with a small group of friends, get drunk, smoke pot, pass out, repeat. There really are not enough people here. I mean my high school was bigger than this place.

Parties are lots of fun. The social spaces are so amazing; it’s such a great idea. There are so many colleges where parties are only in people’s rooms. There are always places to dance and have a good time without being cramped into a dorm. |

The parties are awesome. The Heaven and Hell themed party was so much fun. Third party catering is making them less awesome, though. |

Organization Parties
On-campus parties are held every weekend in one of the many social spaces on campus assigned to different groups at the beginning of each semester. They’re typically scheduled from 10 p.m.-2 a.m. and provide kegs for those claiming to be over-21. Random themes are often assigned, for example the New Years in February party where every hour gets a countdown. Heaven and Hell on Halloween weekend, The Farm Party in the fall, and Gin & Juice in the spring are among the most popular. When the organizations on campus feel like doing something special, they will rent out a bar in the area and rent school buses to get students off campus. These private parties are a nice change from those help on campus, although waiting in negative degree weather for a bus to pick you up can be an adventure. Formals are also held throughout the year off campus at nicer facilities.
Bar Listings
The majority of students go to the VT because the drinks are cheaper, and there are fewer locals here. Village Tavern 14 College St. (315) 853-8010
The Rok is usually populated by Clinton residents. When the Village Tavern is full, students will migrate down here. Don’s Rok 36 College St. (315) 853-8039
What to Do if You're Not 21
The Little Pub on campus is open to everyone—you do need a Little Pub ID to drink. They do offer entertainment other than drinking. Usually there is karaoke, a band playing, or you could play pool and air hockey. The Pub also has halftime parties with wings and pizza during football season. Bundy and Annex parties are open to students of all ages also. In the past year, the College has begun a tradition of late-night events designed to be an alternative to drinking. These events feature midnight movies, board games, trivia, and other activities that allow socializing without the pressure to drink.
