Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The academics and reputation of this University are the main reasons why students are attracted to HU. Hampton is often tagged with the name “The Black Harvard.” The smaller class sizes and fine teachers are greatly appreciated by the students and alumni. Foreign professors with thick accents, however, are a major concern of the students. Hampton University is composed of six schools, 68 Bachelor’s Degree programs, 27 Master’s Degree programs, and the Doctoral or Professional Degree in atmospheric and planetary science (PhD), nursing (PhD), physics (PhD), physical therapy (DPT), and pharmacy (PharmD). You can definitely expect to come here and learn something; and as you progress in your studies, you will find that you will have a new, annual favorite teacher. However, some students feel like they are not getting their money’s worth, educationally. There are institutions in America that cost less, and you can receive the same education as that of HU. You may find yourself asking, “What exactly am I paying for?” Short answer: You are mostly paying for the Hampton University name on a piece of paper.

The academics here are good because they have wonderful teachers, and for the high cost of tuition, who wouldn’t be motivated to learn? The most recognized department is the school of journalism and communications because it is globally funded and occupies one of the newest buildings on campus. The academics at HU range from student to student. What creates success for Hampton alumni is not what grades they get in the classroom (even though it’s a factor), but how they take what they have learned and apply it to the real world.

Its hard work, but its manageable! You just have to stay focused! You probably will not have as much "fun" as your friends, but you have to think long-term. Know your teachers and build a great relationship with them. Also get involved and build your network.

Getting Through a Semester

I actually haven't even started a class at Hampton, but what I can say is I'm ready for whatever challenge any professor throws my way. I plan to excel in every form or fashion. It's my goal and a pleasure to take what I lean academically and apply it in the real world before and after I graduate.
