Gourmet Services is what the HU cooking staff is called, but there is nothing gourmet about the food at all. If you attend an event on campus in which they are catering, the first thing you would say is this is not on-campus food, because it’s well seasoned and actually tasty, but in the cafeteria it’s quite horrible. The cafeteria consists of a salad bar that contains vegetables, salads, and sides, some kind of meat (usually chicken), the sandwich shop, the sweet shop, and don’t forget the main station where you’ll receive your main entrée. The food is considered something one is forced to deal with while living on campus. Many students want to cancel the meal plan, which allows a student three meals a day, everyday, each semester. Others think it is great, primarily the athletes who wish they could eat more than three times a day due to their strenuous activities and busy schedules. On-campus dining is, at times, appreciated, but, for the most part, feared. The best meals from the cafeteria consist of pizza, french fries, fried rice, salad, and sandwiches. Baked chicken is served every single day. Rumor on campus is that it’s not even chicken, but duck. HU failed 23 accounts of inspection in the 2003–2004 fiscal year. It’s not uncommon to see a critter, or two, behind you or crawling up the wall while you’re preparing your plate. Presently, the cafeteria has greatly improved. There were many renovations done to the cafeteria after the violations were exposed on campus. Food services in the cafeteria should be healthier and a little tastier for the students, and they should not be limited to the same thing everyday.

The Food
F
Not only are the cafeteria hours an annoyance. (They close at 6 and 7) When you do get the food there’s nothing but disappointment when you look at your plate. A lot of the food looks like it came out of a can, and when I first came here the food actually made me sick. There also isn’t much diversity in the meal choices. If you don’t want the sickening main entree you can go to the tiny salad bar, or get a sandwich or a wrap but that’s about it.

Maybe not the healthiest
D+
They serve french fries everyday and after a while you will get fat. There not much variety and if they do change up the menu it is on special occasions.

The Simple Campus Dining
B-
The food is not that good especially Friday through Sunday. Holiday dinners are the best especially Thanksgiving. People wait on line an hour before the cafeteria opens just to eat. Sunday brunch is always good and every Wednesday is fried chicken Wednesday.

The Cafeteria has Terrible Food
F
The food is terrible and you have to plan your day based on when you eat in there and when you have to go to the bathroom.

There Are Not Many Options
C
The food is decent but there are not that many choices just in case you don’t like what’s on the menu. They have other options like the pasta and the sandwiches that can serve as a substitute if you don't like what's on the menu. The dining facilities close too early and there are not many late night options.
