Computers Grades:
College Prowler Take
The computers on campus are thankfully up-to-date with the latest software that will allow typing documents, constructing figures and graphs, and being in-sync with the new technology of our day. The ATM, Academic Technology Mall, located in the very attractive and up-to-date Harvey Library, supplies students with all the materials needed for everything from completing their essays for English class to composing a portfolio for the business class. There are computers on all of the five floors of the library. Furthermore, there is Internet access set up in every dorm room, and there is a technician located on campus to aid in repairs.
Many students on campus bring their own computer. Still, others cannot. So, the accessibility to those who need them is good, but many students feel access could be better. This campus has new computers in almost every facility. However, they are not always available to the students at convenient times. The computer labs close at 11:45 p.m., which means pulling all-nighters trying to write a last-minute paper is, currently, not an option. Moreover, you have to pay to print, which becomes a pain. The speed of the Internet is acceptable, though. If you are trying to access it from the privacy of your room, you have to supply the wonderful Ethernet card, and sometimes, the connection is not as good as it should be. For the cost of tuition, maybe the school should offer a loan for computers for students to make the access easier, and less of a headache to print. One major plus is that the University provides Internet access and e-mail accounts to all of its students.

I’m always in the ATM in the library typing something. I don’t have a computer in my room, but I’m working on that. There are times when I wish the computer lab stayed open a lot later because there have been times when I was not finished with what I had to do and time was up, it was closing. |

The computer lab that’s mostly...
The computer lab that’s mostly used, which would be the ATM, is usually overcrowded. Hampton is trying to set us up by taking out all the floppy disk drives in the computers so you have to buy a memory stick from them. Anything they can do to hustle you out of money, they will cook it up. I tried to do my work in there and save it to a floppy and discovered none of them had a disk drive. If someone had not had a memory stick, I would have been extremely angry because there was no way to save my work. Then, if you have work saved to a floppy disk, you cannot alter anything on it from any of the other computers that do have floppy disk drives. That is one thing I can’t stand. |

It’s convenient to be able to use computers and printers when you need to complete assignments and have plenty of access to them. |
