College Prowler Take
HU girls are the talk of the town—literally! All the locals get excited when they meet a female from HU, or an “HU chick.” HU girls have the reputation of being “high-class, bourgeois” females. Some are actually considered “ditzy” and materialistic. A lot, though very smart, party hard on Saturday nights, and get up in time for church on Sunday mornings. The high-spirited HU guys are always trying to snag an HU girl, however, they are not always successful. But, with a ratio of 5:1, which sometimes seem as if it is 10:1 (girls to boys), guys do not sweat the fact they cannot get a girl, because they will eventually, whether the girl is a student at HU or not. HU guys are typical guys who want to make money, have a nice-looking girl, or as they say “bangin’ female,” and are mainly business majors. Girls tend to think the guys need to start paying half as much attention to their appearance as they do; the guys tend to wear the baggy jeans and a T-shirt, instead of being clean cut and good looking. HU is well known for having a campus with the most gorgeous females around. The only downfall is that all these gorgeous ladies way outnumber the guys. HU guys and girls take great pride in their status as Hamptonians. The most exciting event is the Miss HU Pageant, and the males have the joy of seeing the ladies dress to impress in evening gowns, swimwear, and business wear. HU is in a class of its own when it comes to male and female interaction that you cannot find anywhere else. Students Speak Out

The guys and girls here seem to...
The guys and girls here seem to interact well. Most people in general are pretty social. Guys don’t try to impress the girls like it seems the girls try to impress the guys. The girls seem real uppity, and the guys seem either real non chalant or really pressed to get the girl. |

The girls outnumber the guys here by a lot. The girls here go way too far to get all dressed up and put on all this makeup just to see the same guys each and every day. It’s not that serious. |

The girls here are picturesque. It’s truly a portrait of perfection. I notice girls here are trying to find what they want to do with themselves. Like some girls are trying this natural thing with their hair. I hate afros and dreads. I know it’s natural, but to me, it’s naturally ugly. |

The guy and girl scene here is okay. Most people know there’s a lot more girls than guys, not only at Hampton, but it also seems like that in Virginia, as a whole. When I go to the club, there’s a bunch of girls and only a few dudes. |

Each freshman class that comes in...
Each freshman class that comes in generally has beautiful people all around. There is a lot of eye candy on this campus for guys, but not all too much for girls. These guys try to make themselves seem like some kind of thugs. You can’t be a college thug. It just doesn’t mix. Some of these confused dudes need to choose. |

Social Scene
Most students on campus are very social and friendly, even if they are not acquainted with you. It is not hard to find a niche, but it sometimes changes as the years pass because people transfer, are dismissed, or graduate before you do.
Hookups or Relationships?
Freshmen tend to hook up with one another almost immediately after they arrive. It could have a lot to with the fact that they arrive a week early for orientation. After that first week, some of the girls hook up with upperclassmen guys or with local guys in the military. Some people prefer a more loosely-based, "untitled" relationship because it lessens the pressure and responsibilities a serious relationship can entail.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Most Hampton staudents are always in search of something to do around town and just seem to run into a potential mate. Most people meet their mates at the clubs or the mall, where you can get semi acquainted with the person before you give out the phone number for an extended chat.
Dress Code
The University has a strict dress code in which they outline in each and every syllabus given to the students. This prohibits halter tops, net shirts, hoods (in the classroom), baseball caps (in campus buildings), and "do-rags." This school is very fashion savvy and can almost be compared to a modeling runway. Girls put on their best clothes with stiletto heels they can barely walk in, and pile on the makeup to walk to the same classes each and everyday. There are some females you will never see without makeup. Most guys are pretty casual, but they have to have a fresh white T-shirt and $149 sneakers with every ensemble.
