Student Author OverviewWhat's This?
No college campus is crime- or incident-free, and HU is no exception, though incidents have been minimal over the years. Overall, the campus of HU is relatively safe, and the administration has been working to make the campus even safer. There are now 24-hour security guards at the main gates to limit unauthorized vehicle access on campus. No one, other than students and those with proper verification, is allowed anywhere on campus without going through security, and it is the only entrance and exit through which outsiders may enter the campus.
The police officers on campus are much more active than they were in previous years. Students roam the campus at all hours of the day and night and feel comfortable and safe doing so. There are blue boxes around campus that allow you to call campus police for help, and there is 24-hour emergency assistance ready and waiting. Having had a couple of incidents on campus and being only a few miles from the roughest place in the area where crime is fairly active, HU police are on their guard. Hampton, in general, has a comparatively low crime rate compared to the surrounding Hampton Roads cities, and it has a crime rate lower than the national average for cities its size.
