Hampton Life: My Home by the Sea

When it comes to my school, Hampton University is very unique when it comes to helping graduates find jobs. If you're a graduating student with a 3.0 grade point average or higher the university will assist you in helping find a job. The campus is also very beautiful as far as looks are concerned. It is right on the Chesapeake Bay with a gorgeous view. You meet new people everyday, some can be friendly some may not like you but overall the social life is friendly.

Female students compete annually to represent Hampton University and to go on to compete in other pageants such as Miss Virginia and Miss America.
  • Mr. Pirate Pageant: It is much like the Miss HU Pageant, but for the males around the campus. They model swimsuits, casual wear, and talent. They do not compete in anything else but Mr. Pirate, and the winner is to represent himself as a male role model across campus.
Urban Legends
  • A girl committed suicide in Virginia–Cleveland Hall, and the room can no longer be occupied.
  • If you walk across Ogden circle in your undergraduate tenure, you will not graduate on time, or at all.
  • The seasoning in the food is rumored to repress hormones.
Did You Know?

In 2009, HU crowned its first non-black Homecoming Queen, which created a lot of controversy amongst students.

It is rumored that a long time ago when applying to Hampton, students would have to send a picture of themselves with their application.

Hampton University was called Hampton Institute before the school added their Master's Degree program and became a university in 1984.
