Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hampton University is within minutes from almost every fast food restaurant you can think of. There is also a bombardment of chain store restaurants like Applebee’s and Ruby Tuesday. And let’s not forget that Hampton is right at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, meaning some of the best seafood around. Off-campus dining is very diverse. You can have hamburgers at McDonald’s or pasta at the Olive Garden. There is Mercury Boulevard, which is about five blocks  of restaurants, diners, pancake houses, and generally a place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner everyday.

Eating off campus is very popular among on- and off-campus students. Many students order pizza from either Chanello’s, Papa John’s, or Pizza Hut. All of the off-campus dining areas make tremendous amounts of money off of the HU students. Furthermore, because the Hampton area is primarily known for the school and the school brings many students and visitors, many restaurants are continuing to be built. This allows for several job opportunities for the students, as well. When students are really looking to spend some cash on a really fancy dinner, there are always the waterfront restaurants, and one can always hop over to Downtown Norfolk for the high-class places. But when staying in Hampton, there is a vast selection for whatever you may have a taste for, and the prices are rather reasonable. Being within minutes from some of the most popular food chains and eating spots around, off-campus dining is highly coveted by HU students.

It's a Walk

Around campus we have a Chinese food store, tropical smoothie, and the university cafe, hardees, mcdonalds, and we used to have a burger king. The chinese food store is a good spot to get quick food but the food is ok and the skimp on the rice. The tropical smoothie and the university cafe are good places to get food, no complaints. To get to Hardee's and McDonalds, its a long walk but sometimes worth it. At Hardee's they give students a free small fries and drink with your id but a majority of students don't know about it. The burger king was shut down. Everywhere else you need a car or you need to take a cab.

Car

The only places in walking distance of Hampton are Burger King, a chinese food place, and the University Cafe (which is different from the cafe on campus). If you have a car you have more variety.
