We also have the maxbus which goes out to Norfolk

The prices for the HRT buses are great!!

My only problem is the time!!-the buses stop running at around 8:15pm :( I come from NYC where everything is 24/7

College Nights: Hampton Style!

The nightlife at Hampton can be wild, crazy, and outgoing. But it is also how you make it to be. Some nights can be boring and some nights you can find a house party or a club that everybody is attending. Overall the nightlife at Hampton can be filled with entertainment.

Hope for Better Housing

We all understand that Hampton University is an HBCU and that does mean its historical but its not necessary for us to feel as if when W.E.B. DuBois attended the school and now not much has changed for living arragements. The housing at Hampton is absolutely horrific to say the least. You have hot water when your fortunate enough to enjoy that, heat and air come on when the semester is almost over and the season is about to change and its no longer needed. You learn to adapt to all the mishaps you are dealing with daily at Hampton and although you pay so much to stay in these crap dorms if something goes wrong they will get to it at THEIR earliest convience. So whether or not your parents call and complain and are under the influence that the issue will be dealt with you as a student know better and most likely nothing will change. The major plus to on campus housing is the relationships you build with people and your forced to adapt and learn ways of other people and that may be the only good that comes out of campus housing. Among this the dorms do have nice views of the "home by the sea" and even when you are fed up with the lack of service to the housing and tired of dealing with such harsh living conditions when you look outside you can atleast appreciate God mades creation the water that seems to temporarily remove all your issues. But after your first semester, if you make it through the year you know to GET OFF campus faster than they can bill you for another dorm.

Hamptonian Men & Women

I have heard people say that when you leave high school and come to college that you have a chance to be something or someone for that matter, that you were not in high school because hardly anyone at your college would know you from then. At Hampton, we have an unofficial process that is called becoming "hamptonized". It usually occurs towards the end of a first year student's first semester in the fall. They see how people from all over the country that attend hampton have a certain style that usually alot of people condform to. they too start to look at different clothing styles and vintage styles (which are now coming back) to order and rack up on these clothing items during their winter break so that when they come back for the sprring semster they have been able to switch up their style a little bit so that they do not feel "left out." Don't get me wrong, no one Hampton walks around in pairs of people who talk the same and look the same at least not in all cases but we are known as the Historically Black University that is a "fashion show" everyday. And we love to live up to our reputation as being just that. That being said the guys and us girls are very appealing young indibvidulas with bright futures ahead of us. Not only do we know when to dress and know what to wear but we also know what needs to be worn at the right times therefore making it easier for us to dress the right way in the business professional world when we graduate and leave Hampton (you will catch at least 10 students wearing business professional suits a day because of major, student leadership program etc.) We are all diverse but are all unified at the same time.

Dictators

At Hampton you will feel as though you are still in High School. Although they have rules for freshman like curfew and no male/female visitation you would think as an upperclassman they would lighten up. WRONG! After completing your freshman year you will still not be allowed males/females in your room. Now i understand they do not want you distracted but at some point they have to trust us to make smart decisions. Your attire to class and on campus is strict as well, basically the same as high school, and hats are not allowed in class depending on your professor, can you say ridiculous. Even when you do have a visitor (usually same sex) they have to gone by a certain time! So no sleepovers with the girls.

Dorms (Thumbs Down)

The dorms are not what you would expect at an accredited HBCU. Many dorms are without and air or heat, and the laundry has to be done off campus. A van picks you up every hour on the hour and most times it is late and the people are rude. The wash and dryers break often. There is no wifi in dorm rooms and most of your access to internet and cable will be on your roommates side so it can be a bit of a problem.

I Love HU

Hampton has its ups and downs but it nothing that one can't live with. The Freshman dorms mainly VC need renovations but if I had to do it all over again Hampton would still be my choice.

Hampton University Is Strict

The police force is very strict about underage drinking. First time offenders are kicked out. Dorm administrators do not allow guest of the opposite sex to the private areas of the dorm. For the first two months of the semester freshmen were on a curfew. Hats are not allowed in any building even in your own dormroom. No drugs at all. The best advice follow the rules unless you have a way to slip under the radar.

Sometimes I Wish

When I go out at night, which is every other Saturday between November and March, I find it easy to find parties, but difficult to find nice guys. This is because all the guys are jerks, except the non-jerks who are either gay or smell like plants. And who would want to hook up with a guy who smells like foliage? Not a good idea. But there's free transportation back to the dorm, which is beneficial since every Feb. 29th, I go buck wild and drink shots of apple juice until I pass out. Good times.

Hampton University Waterfront/Shopping

Hampton University is known as "our home by the sea" because we are located near the water which offers a spectacular waterfront that showcases the sunset/sunrise. There is also an newly built shopping mall near by called the Peninsula town center that offers over 20 stores.

They Don't Play

underage drinking penalties are pretty harsh. expulsion after the first infringement. i feel like that's a bit harsh because idiotic freshmen are going to come onto campus and do exactly that, drink. being an idiot isn't illegal, and deserves at least a warning.

In a nutshell, the dorms suck. I've always experienced numerous plumbing issues. The rules are very strict regarding members of the opposite gender. But at least it's a roof over my head.

Forget Freedom

If you thought you were going to get all the freedom you didn't have while living under your parents roof when coming to Hampton University, you thought wrong. Incoming freshman have curfews. You have to be in your dorm room at 11pm on weekdays (Sun-Thurs) and by 1pm on Weekends (Fri and Sat). Only if your behavior and grades (as a freshman class) are reasonably well, you MIGHT get off by homecoming week. My freshman class got off of curfew AFTER homecoming week. Hampton also doesn't tolerate underage drinking or drug use. If you are caught, you might get off with a warning, but don't be pissy drunk or get caught with drugs in your room, because you will end up with a fine or kicked out of school. And they definitely do room inspections of all the resident halls, so don't try to hide your liquor or drugs in your room. By the way, just make sure to ask about the "out by 5:00" rule.

There ae very few guys at Hampton. There are usually a lot of females at all events. However too many females in one place can cause a lot of problems like drama. The greek life is terrible because there are only a few greek organizations that are aticive.
