Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

As a liberal arts college, Hanover places strong emphasis on learning inside and outside of the classroom, and strives for an interdisciplinary approach to academics. The professors are the real stars of the College and are pretty fantastic. Obviously, there are some professors that rub students the wrong way, but for the most part, the professors are highly talented, caring individuals who truly love to teach. There are no teaching assistants at Hanover, so professors teach all of their own classes, and most have terminal degrees in their areas of study.

Discussion-based classes are the norm, and most classes have under 15 students, so discussions are lively and personal. Professors are usually willing to work with students on an individual basis or make allowances for personal issues. They are often in their offices and have frequent walk-in hours. Students and professors make personal connections and friendships that go beyond the classroom. Many professors pass out their home phone numbers and invite students to their homes for study parties, movie nights, or celebration dinners.

Great Professors but Not the Right Fit for Everyone

I have great things to say about Hanover College but it is not for everyone. I've enjoyed the courses I have taken so far but the class sizes are very small. In one of my classes there are only nine students. There is a lot of pressure put on the individual student to do well, participate in class, and work hard. However, the professors are helpful and try their best to work with the students. The students seem to be one of their main concerns and focuses. If a small school with dedicated professors that deal with small classes is appealing to you, than I suggest looking into Hanover College. If not, then don't.

One of the hardest majors on campus. Professors push and push but it sets you up very well for post-undergrad work

Challenging and Rewarding

Hanover coursework is difficult yet doable. Professors are more than happy to help students individually. Small class sizes allow for this. While I have been challenged academically, I feel as though I have learned a lot.
