Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Because there are only three main dining locations on campus, eating is as much as a social event as it is a means of nourishment. Students often eat together at the same time every night and may even have a preferred table. This is especially true during freshman year when everyone eats together before students are split up into Greek organizations. Students always have and always will complain about the food, but the staff is always seeking student feedback about the food and looking for ways to improve. Better cooks, more options for vegetarians and vegans, more fresh fruits and vegetables, and more personalized meals are just a few of the recent changes to dining on campus.

There is a great variety of food between the three main dining locations on campus. The main dining hall (the J. Graham Brown Campus Center or "the CC") provides home-cooked entrées or daily favorites like hamburgers, pasta, pizza, and a salad bar, as well as Subway-style sandwiches, unique dishes like stir-frys and wraps, and many vegetarian and vegan options. The Shoebox has sports bar-style food, like appetizers, burgers, fries, salads, and wraps that are all cooked fresh for each customer. The Underground (UG) offers food for those who want to eat and run, with dishes like cold and grilled sandwiches, pasta, pizza from the Pizza Hut Express, and salads, too.

The Dig on Dining

There are three dining option on capmus; the Underground (UG), the Campus Center cafeteria (CC), and the Shoebox. All are good options and have decent food. However, after eating at any of these places for an extended period of time it gets old. I live in a greek house and we have our own cook which has been very beneficial to me. The food is better and healthier.

Pretty Good Variety on Campus

The main dining hall has a variety of different kinds of food everyday, including a themed cuisine that changes everyday, soup and salad bar. There is another location that specialized in take out items, and an on-campus location that serves alcohol and bar/grill food.

Special Options The sorority and fraternity houses each have their own cooks, and their members’ meal plans are worked out through the houses. Most Greek houses offer cereal, granola bars, and toast for breakfast and two planned meals for lunch and dinner each weekday. Several houses choose to have money on meal cards for use at The Underground on weekends, and other houses give money back to individuals to use for weekend meals. Some Greek houses pick their own menus, while others are left to the cook’s discretion. Student who live in a Greek House don’t have a meal plan to eat in the Campus Center.
Did You Know? Hanover’s meal plan options include a set number of meals for the semester and declining balance funds ranging from $50 to $250. The declining balance can be used to buy meals or separate items from any of the on-campus dining establishments.
