College Prowler Take
A large percentage of Hanover’s students are Greek, so the campus is filled with activities that revolve around Greek life. The College has a deferred formal recruitment in January, which gives freshmen time to concentrate on school and figure out which fraternity or sorority really fits them. Living in the Greek houses offers the chance to form bonds with your brothers or sisters. Each sorority has member activities, such as dinner or a movie, and they each have a philanthropy-inspired social outside the library steps. The Halloween parties held by the fraternities are some of the most memorable experiences of the fall semester.
The Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternal Council plan events such as Greek Weekend, when the houses compete for social dates the following year. This event often involves field games, bonfires, and wiffleball tournaments. The campus is supportive of the Greek atmosphere, which enhances the small-town experience for many students. The sororities don’t have parties open to the campus, but the fraternities hold most of the parties on campus. There are also semi-formals, formals, and dances, which are great mixers for Greeks and their dates and one of the major perks of being a member.
