Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

The guys and girls at Hanover are diverse, and there are people from all over the country. Many students come to the College not knowing anyone else, but it is easy to make friends during your first year while living with your classmates in freshman residence halls and meeting older students in class or through other campus activities. Joining a Greek organization creates a whole new social network and a group of brothers or sisters to hang out with, and many Greek students end up dating fellow Greeks. Students describe the typical Hanover girl as fun, smart, friendly, hard working, and into partying, and the typical Hanover guy as athletic, into partying, fun, smart, and outgoing.

Not many Hanover students are married during their time on campus, so most are looking for a good time or a significant other, both of which can be found. Although a lot of Hanover students are in long-distance relationships with people from home, there are many on-campus relationships, and a fairly large number of Hanover students end up marrying a fellow Hanoverian. The small and close campus community and the lack of restrictions about visiting students of the opposite sex may help explain this. There are enough places to socialize on and off campus that you will have different types of people to hang out with. Hanover has great potential life partners, as well as students who are looking for fun dates.

Gauys and Gals of Hanover

The students are awesome at Hanover, basically everybody lies everybody else, but if you happen to dislike a certain person or a group of people then it is very easy to avoid conflict with them. Overeall, the students are just awesome.

Friendly Crowd

In my experience at Hanover, everyone is very friendly and helpful. Students would help me find my classes or take me there themselves.

Facts

Social Scene

There is always something to do on campus, whether it's a fraternity party or a sorority event, a speaker, a theater production, a movie night sponsored by a club, a band in the Shoebox, an improv show, or a comedian brought to campus by the Campus Activities Board. Students over 21 head off campus to visit the local bars on weekends or have a beer or two at the Shoebox. Many students don't have class on Thursdays, so Wednesdays are typically the night to go out during the school week. For many students, the weekends are a time for relieving stress and hanging out with friends. Hanover has a much smaller social scene than bigger schools, but on the plus side, you get to see many of the same faces and are able to build close bonds.

Hookups or Relationships?

There are random hookups at Hanover, but most people find themselves in relationships and probably long-term ones. Many students also maintain long-distance relationships with significant others from home. Because of the small student body, it is really easy to get to know other people well. Most residence halls have a 24-hour visitation policy, so guys and girls can hang out as much as they want. Some students go out on dates, but most people find themselves girlfriends and boyfriends at Hanover, even if it’s not that serious of a relationship. On the weekends, many girls go to their boyfriends’ fraternities to hang out. Students usually go where the biggest party is or where their friends are.

Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls

The best places to meet guys or girls are at the fraternity houses on the weekends or in class. Getting involved on campus can also open doors to meeting new people. Since Hanover is small, it isn’t hard to see the same face again if you are interested in someone. Social situations usually help people find someone they would like to date. It is not like at a big school where you might find someone at a party and then never see them again.

Dress Code

The dress code is pretty casual, with the diverse student body adding a lot of different styles to the mix. You'll see everything from preppy to bohemian, grungy to trendy. On Mondays, the sororities often dress up in "pin attire," which includes nice pants or dresses with their sorority pin. Many students wear club or Greek organization T-shirts and jeans, and many people wear Hanover sweatpants and hoodies to class.
