  • The high stress level that can come from the challenging academics
  • The isolated, rural location
  • The large amount of extracurricular activities available
Tips to Succeed
  • Be careful about getting mixed up in drinking and partying, especially freshman year.
  • Be well prepared for class discussions and participate in them.
  • Don't be afraid to ask for help from a professor or to go to the Learning Center for help.
  • Don't procrastinate.
  • Work on your writing skills before coming to Hanover because all of the classes include writing papers—not just the English and history classes.

Hidden Away

One really cool thing about Hanover College, is that it sits on 650 acres of land that overlook the Ohio River. There are trails that are mapped out that you can hike and breath-taking views from many places on campus. If you arrive at the campus via Scenic Drive, the road winds through the forest where one can see cliffs and small waterfalls. Then it opens up to the campus itself. It is really unique to Hanover College. One gets the feeling that they are hidden away in a forest clearing, on a bluff with a great view of the river.

A Tighly-Knit and Beautiful Place

Being a small college in a small town, Hanover is a very tightly knit community. You recognize most of the students by sight if not by name. When I visited Hanover for the first time I was struck by how friendly and helpful everyone was. I really felt that everyone there had my best interests at heart and wanted to help me in any way possible. After three years there, I still feel that Hanover is a really wonderful and helpful community.

I also would argue that Hanover has one of the most beautiful campuses that you could possibly find. It is covered in trees and there are many opportunities for hiking and other outdoor activities. There are even a few waterfalls on campus!

Great Professors, Great Community

Apart from crappy housing and crappy cafeteria food, Hanover has a distinctively familial feel to it. With only 1000 students, everyone knows everyone, and the Student Life staff is completely maternal towards us. I have become great friends with most of the professors in my department, and consider most of the professors at Hanover to be top rate, great people, and great teachers.
