Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Although Hanover College is located in small-town, rural Indiana, the area holds hidden jewels. The town of Hanover is mostly residential, but just a few minutes away is Madison, a slightly larger town with a lot of charm and personality. Historic downtown Madison is a quaint river-side town filled with local cafés, boutiques, and antique stores. Many fairs and festivals are held throughout the year, making it a popular tourist destination and a fun opportunity to get students off campus.

Upper Madison is located on the hilltop and links the area to the highways and larger roads out of town. Here, students and residents can find fast food restaurants, Wal-Mart and other grocery stores, chain retail locations, a large movie theater, and a bowling alley.

The Bubble

Hanover is a small town with little going for it but it's campus. Madison, the closest town, is filled with many little cultural shops and is right beside the Ohio River, but during the year, there really isn't much to do. Hanover students go to fraternities if they want something to do. That being said, it is a fairly safe environment. And since it is a division three school, sports aren't really much of an emphasis here, however the students still take them seriously.

Hanover/Madison IN

There is not much to do for local life in Hanover. Activities take place in Madison. There is an upper area that is commercial and lower Madison which is by the river and more historical. Many students will travel to Louisville or Indianapolis if they want to get away and spend the day in the city.

Small but Nice

Hanover College is located in Hanover, IN, a small town with relatively little to do. However, it is close to Madison, IN, another small town that has a lot of character. There is more to do in Madison. However, for students who crave the city, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Indianapolis are all a reasonable drive away. I love the smallness of it. It is a very beautiful area with plenty of room to hike both on and off campus. Clifty Falls state park is merely 5 minutes away.
