Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Hanover is an incredibly pedestrian campus, so most students only use their cars to travel off campus, like to Madison or home for the weekend. It only takes a 15-minute walk to get from the far side of campus to the other, so students walk everywhere. Most residence halls and campus housing are only 5 to 10 minutes away from academic buildings, so no one has very far to go. Students who bring cars on campus must register their vehicles by filling out a form at the security building at the beginning of the year. Students are given a sticker that goes on the front windshield of their cars, making them recognizable to Campus Security.

Parking is available near most residence halls, but parking near academic buildings is very limited because the College promotes walking to class. Freshmen have a separate parking lot on the outskirts of campus, but they cannot bring cars to campus until after fall break, unless they receive a special permit or live more than 150 miles away. Many students have bicycles on campus, and there are plenty of bike racks where you can lock them up.

Availability of Parking

There are plenty of available parking spots all over campus. If you want to park near your residence hall instead of the freshman lot there is a specific amount of time you can keep it there without geting a ticket.

Discouraged

With a strong "Go Green" initiative on campus, the administration and various organizations are pushing for a pedestrian-only campus. But for now, there is parking all over the place. Though the number of spots specifically labeled for students apart from dorm parking is seriously limited.

Car Friendly, but Park Where You're Supposed to.

If you have a car, bring it to campus. We're in the woods, and Madison is about 10 minutes away. You don't need to walk around campus, but it's just to go off-campus. Parking is pretty convenient unless you're a freshman who doesn't park in the assigned parking lot. They have a parking lot out by the football field, which Security is more than happy to escort you to on rainy/cold/scary days. When freshmen park in the upperclassmen lots, we tend to get quite irritated.

Getting a Parking Permit

Resident students may register only one vehicle, and it must be registered at the beginning of the year or as soon as they bring their car to campus. Decals must be attached to the lower left-hand corner of the windshield.

Did You Know? Ball Drive, which runs in front of the Campus Center, is pedestrian only. Driving down this street and parking are not allowed.
