Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Often, when a student is asked why he or she chose to come to Hanover, the answer is: “I came to Hanover because it’s so beautiful in the fall/winter/spring/summer.” While this is a long-running joke, it does have truth to it. Hanover is surrounded by trees of all sorts, and the campus looks beautiful in any season, from the changing leaves in the fall to the flowering trees and daffodils in the spring. Hanover's Midwest location makes the weather fairly mild, especially because it is a little farther south and protected by the river. This area typically has hot and humid summers that last through September. Then, the temperatures stay in the low 70s until late October when it becomes very cold with snow and sometimes ice until mid-March. Things begin to warm up around April, and the many flowering trees, daffodils, and tulips bloom. The summer months are hot and dry, but the campus usually stays green.

Hanover seems to get a lot of rain, so be prepared to slog to class in the wet. When the weather is warm, students tend to gather on the quad for sunbathing, homework, and the occasional game of Frisbee. Many students run on campus or hike on one of the many trails, while others take advantage of the outdoor classroom near The Point. Fall is a particularly popular time of year to hike and take pictures of the beautiful campus.

Sometimes there is amazing weather, then other times there is rain, snow, etc. But honestly that's what you get anywhere you go.

Weather at Hanover

When it rains it is wet and we wear rainboots. When it snows it is cold we wear rainboots. When it is warm and nice outside, it is comfortable. So, the better the weather, the better the experience!

Typical Midwest Weather

We usually have pretty calm weather, but during the winter, snow can be brutal and heavy. During the summer, the heat can sometimes be out of control. With no air conditioning in some of the the actual dorm rooms themselves, the heat can be especially obnoxious. But, luckily, none of this weather tends to last that long. For the most part, we experience relatively mild and calm weather.
