A great experience. Wonderful to have small classes

off campus housing is priced very high in Abilene for the worth of the house. Landlords seem to be very up to keep on there property. The houses around the colleges are all very outdated for the most part and not alot a variety. Most neighborhoods around the colleges are very sketchy and run down.

night life in abilene is not so much.... There are a few activities but you do not have many options and you get tired of the same thing quickly.
College Junior 2013-11-05T22:30:40Z
Abilene is just a very small conservative town. You see the same people alot and you can only do a few activities over and over. There are about 2 places for college students to go who are under 18 for night life and the shopping is terrible. The good thing is everything you need is within 10 miles either direction.

Guys & Girls:
Students at our school almost all participate in some athletic sport. Its a very casual laid back look on a daily basis for every student. Clubs or sorority's are not a big deal at all at HSU. There are always activities being put on by the HSU social life directors and always games of some sport to come support.

Im very happy with the way my program has been at HSU. I have one of the best majors and the best teachers. I would choose that major and this school all over again if i had too. Since im going into PT i really dont have a concern with finding a job when i get out.
College Junior 2013-11-05T22:25:37Z
I do plan to have an internship starting this summer. Im trying to get hired as a PT tech so i have a job and get my hours for interning. There are many places i could intern and apply. I was a Nurse Assistant all last summer at Baptist hospital in Arkansas and i hope to find a tech job in Abilene also.,

Abilene has a large variety of dining but alot are higher priced dine in restaurants
College Junior 2013-11-05T22:21:13Z
School spirit for sports is very poor.

Hardin Simmons is just a very small college and i might go to a bigger state college if i wouldn't loose so many hours transferring this late in my major
College Junior 2013-11-05T22:19:31Z
there is usually parking open but during morning when all students are at the college it is very hard to find parking.

The computers and software are good and up to date.

Hardin-Simmons wants its students to follow the rules very closely.

If you are living on campus, curfews are enforced, and opposite sexes are forbidden in opposite sex dorms.
College Senior 2013-07-30T23:02:03Z
The only nightlife is social club activities. Outside or off campus activity is nearly non-existent. And if it is existent, I certainly don't know about it.
College Senior 2013-07-30T23:00:25Z
It's a Baptist school, if that was going on, no one would know.
College Junior 2013-07-16T00:40:31Z
Not too sure how the night life is, I haven't had time to go out but from what I hear from other students they say the night life is not too great. City is small and curfew is implemented on all students. Considering that I am a nursing major I will not have time to have a night life.
College Sophomore 2013-07-11T01:42:49Z
I am undeclared but the school had a decent amount of majors for students, and offered special ones like a major in bible studies and other things.
College Sophomore 2013-07-11T01:39:32Z
i received some financial aid, no scholarships and the tuition at this little university is sky-high.
College Sophomore 2013-07-11T01:38:32Z
very friendly people and atmosphere. great for small town people but if you're a city guy like me it can be absolutely boring
College Sophomore 2013-07-11T01:36:27Z
good food in the city of Abilene, but it might be a little drive since Abilene is a very spread out city.

HSU doesn't have much to offer in off-campus housing. Most of the facilities are for students in family situations
College Junior 2013-05-24T19:15:10Z
There are people from all over the world at HSU. It is a baptist school, but the school works with the interfaith cooperative council and there are sometimes speakers there.
College Junior 2013-05-24T19:13:16Z
Campus policies are very strict. Dorms are strictly gender segregated and you can't have opposite gender friends visit your room at all. Drinking policies are similarly strict. I could never live on campus.

Guys & Girls:
Everyone seems fairly nice, but the school is painfully conservative at times, and anyone that doesn't fit in to the typical southern mold may find themselves out of sorts. They won't be ostricized however. I've encountered mostly positive indivicals and they can be surprisingly accepting. The faculty are all wonderful and warm.
Sorry, there are no reviews.
