Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Opinions on the quality of campus dining at Harvard run the gamut from total disgust to lavish praise. In general, students admire the beautiful architecture of Annenberg and most of the House dining facilities, but many students don’t believe the ambience of the dining halls makes up for the less-than-stellar cuisine served up by Harvard University Dining Services (HUDS).

However, students can use their Crimson Cash at a select number of restaurants in Harvard Square, making Harvard’s dining opportunities appear a bit brighter. Most of the complaints about food quality come from first-year students who are victims of Annenberg, where food is mass-produced to serve more than 1,600 freshmen. Upperclassmen note that food quality does improve after freshman year, however.

As Expected

Harvard Dining Services automatically allocates every student in Harvard housing an unlimited meal plan, meaning you can swipe into the dining hall as many times as you want every day. However the hours are difficult (ie, lunch ends at 2:15, dinner ends at 7:15) so if you're busy like every Harvard student, you end up missing a lot of meals you are paying for. There are lots of vegan, vegetarian, and locally grown options but food is pretty boring and they serve the same things every week.

Food Is Good, but Miss Hot Breakfast!

The food is generally nice with a lot of variety (plus the ability to use any dining hall, which is really convenient!)

However, hot breakfasts were recently limited to ONLY Sunday brunch! A big bummer during the frigid Boston winters!
