Don’t let Van Wilder or Girls Gone Wild give you any crazy ideas about college and what girls and guys will look like at Harvard. If physical attractiveness is important, then you might want to steer clear of Harvard College. Though most students believe that the student body is of average attractiveness, very few report a significant number of hot guys or girls on campus. Additionally, girls tend to accept the male population as average or better, while guys have a less positive outlook towards the female population. The lack of looks at Harvard shouldn’t get you down just yet, though, because Boston is home to a myriad of other universities to find potential partners. But for those who believe looks are not everything, then Harvard students’ individuality should provide plenty of options.

Taking into consideration that...
Taking into consideration that about 25 percent to 50 percent of the students don’t leave their rooms, the student population you actually see out is a fun, good-looking bunch. There are very few overweight people, so bodies tend to be either stringy or buff. Some people say there is no dating scene, but I would disagree. Asking or being asked out to dinner or for coffee has been pretty commonplace among both my girl and guy friends. |

Girls here are certainly mediocre,...
Girls here are certainly mediocre, though perhaps not significantly worse than other top schools. One gets the feeling that the prettiest of girls probably wouldn't hold that status were it not for her bank account (fine clothes, careful grooming, etc.). Girls are mostly sapped up by guys on the final guy scene, and the snootier set (read: the best underclassmen and many good-looking seniors) are carted off by grad students.

FactsBirth Control Available?
Yes - University Health Services provides free condoms, and physicians will provide prescriptions for various methods of birth control.
Hookups or Relationships?
Random hookups do happen on the weekends (and weekdays see their share as well). However, most people are extremely busy and often are so focused on their work that relationships either die out or become serious within a short period of time. This isn't to say you'll never see lasting relationships: annoyingly cute couples walk the Yard surprisingly often. And the Harvard Magazine—the alumni publication—is always filled with news of Harvard newlyweds.

Dress Code
On the weekends, most people dress up to go out, but during weekday study breaks or hangout sessions, most anything goes (throughout the winter, however, dress code really doesn't matter because everyone is so bundled up to keep warm). In general, Harvard tends to be a bit more formal than average. On the weekend, guys generally sport khakis with a button down or knit-shirt, and a sweater or leather jacket. Girls' dress combinations vary greatly and will often depend on the weather to determine if a skirt or pants are appropriate.
