Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

Students frequently utilize public transportation in Boston, and almost always give nothing but high marks for the system. Boston’s public transportation provides Harvard students with a reliable and safe method of reaching almost anywhere they wish to go. The local T has frequent stops throughout Cambridge and Boston, while the commuter rail takes students throughout Massachusetts and as far as Providence, RI. Moreover, the MBTA bus system provides additional routes throughout the area.

Public transportation in Boston is inescapable because the expense of parking and maintaining a car can be just as absurd as the rates that Boston cabbies charge. Harvard students benefit greatly from this resource, especially because the Harvard T stop sits in the exact center of Harvard Square, providing all points on campus easy access to wherever they need to be.

Great

The T is great for any transportation needs. There are also Harvard shuttles running to the Quad, the med school, and the business school.

Convenience and Cost

There are shuttles that run around campus very frequently. These shuttles are provided free of cost.

From Harvard, to get to Boston is simply a subway ride away. The subway costs $1.45, I believe, and the subway stop is right beside campus. There's actually a "Harvard" stop.

There are also buses that cost about $1.35 that will go anywhere the subway doesn't drop off reasonably close.

There are also taxis.

And, of course, there's always walking. Boston/Cambridge are wonderful walking/biking cities. There are sidewalks EVERYWHERE.
