College Prowler Take

There isn’t a lot of drug activity happening at Mudd, aside from some pot smoking. Those who want to try drugs can find them pretty easily, but there is no pressure at all to use drugs, even if you hang out with people who do use them. Linde and West, and sometimes North Hall, are the most prevalent drug scenes, with people occasionally smoking from a bong outside on the Linde couches. South Hall is completely substance free, and East, Case, and Atwood Halls are not known for much drug activity at all.

As is the case for most of Mudd, the prevailing rule here is “be safe.” People who do use drugs do them in the company of friends, so that there’s less chance of getting hurt or doing something stupid. There isn’t a lot of drug usage at Mudd, although some students take caffeine or Adderall to help them study. If you go looking for drugs, they’re easy to find, but you can go through Mudd without even noticing them if that’s what you want. When doing drugs, the Honor Code still applies to all students. Students are expected to file a self-report if they do anything stupid. Campus Security will, for the most part, leave students alone, unless they get too rowdy or cause trouble.

There’s absolutely no pressure to do drugs here, and those who do drugs aren’t the ‘cool’ kids. It doesn’t work that way. If you’re going to do drugs, they’re not hard to find, but they’re not all that prevalent, either.

I have a lot of friends who smoke pot, but it’s never been an issue between us. I sometimes rail on them for being unhealthy, but it’s all in good fun, and they’ve never pressured me to try. The first time I was hanging out with them, they asked me if I wanted a hit. I said no, and that was it for the next two years. There isn’t a lot of tension between smokers and non-smokers here.

I’ve never been around people doing drugs (maybe because I live in South Hall), but the general attitude is to let people do what they want. There’s no pressure at all.

Drugs aren’t something you’ll normally see around campus, but if you go looking, it’s not hard to find them, especially pot. Linde and West Halls have the most stoners.
