Student Author OverviewWhat's This?

There is very little in the way of nightlife when it comes to Claremont. Students don’t usually go out to bars or nightclubs, for a few different reasons. First of all, Claremont has very little night life, unless you’re at a college. Second of all, Los Angeles is usually too far to drive for a few drinks. Third of all, why go anywhere else! There are always parties happening on campus, and the alcohol is free.

The reluctance of Mudders to venture out of the “Mudd Bubble” can be taken several ways. It’s possible that students truly believe there are no better options for fun than on campus. It is also true that the nearest nightlife attractions are a good distance away. But it’s also possible that HMC nightlife is more geared toward the college party than a night on the town. For whatever reason, heading off campus is rare, and as a result, traditional nightlife attractions are few and far between in Claremont. There are times when students get themselves off campus, but it’s not often to hit up a bar or nightclub. Students are more likely to travel down to Los Angeles for a concert. If you want a warehouse rave, ask an appropriate Linde dorm resident for directions. There is a large contingent of Mudders who frequent the swing dance venues, and a few more who hit up dance places on salsa nights. Aside from those, nightlife at Mudd consists of homework, drinks with friends, or a 5C party. Going outside the bubble is just not worth it for clubbing or drinks.

On Campus Partys Are Best

If you are looking for a good time go for the on-campus parties. The atmosphere and people are great, and it is not too dangerous or irresponsible on whole.

Nightlife is decent. On the weekends, there are sure to be students partying hard to make up for the lost time during the week. The small community results in small parties, but the campus has a relaxed policy on partying.

Parties on campus are pretty good. Mudd throws some of the best parties of the colleges in the immediate area. A lot of people come here to party on the weekends.

Facts

Club Crawler

The nightlife in Claremont is virtually nonexistent. If you want to go clubbing, LA is your best bet. There are a million clubs to go to, though most of them are 21-and-over. If it’s a weekend, chances are there’s plenty to do around the 5C. Most of the students here don’t go to clubs, since college parties provide dancing and free alcohol.

Bar Prowler

Heroes is the only bar in Claremont, and it’s more of an eatery than a bar. Again, there are bars in LA, but students don’t usually need to go that far to find alcohol or new friends.

Club ListingsWhat's This?

White Lotus

The White Lotus is a restaurant/nightclub. You need advance dinner reservations, which can be quite expensive, but provide access to the adjoining nightclub. The food is varied, from sushi to bouillabaisse. The meal and dancing are worth it.

The Mayan

The Mayan is a historic Los Angeles venue, and has a split personality. There is live salsa music most nights, and Latin dancers have a chance to show off everything from their cha cha to meringue. When a band plays, it turns into a crazy concert venue. You must be 21 or over and properly dressed. If you don’t know how to dance Latin, it’s a great place to learn.

Heroes

A sports bar/restaurant that draws a bigger crowd of Mudders for the food than the nightlife.

Baja Sharkeez

This is a huge sports bar with a bunch of big screens and lots of music. There is no cover, and dress is casual. Mostly draws a younger, beach crowd, because of its location.

What to Do if You're Not 21What's This?

There is plenty to do on campus during the weekends. Mudd really comes to life, with North hosting beer pong and West burning random things. There are many themed parties throughout the year, where alcohol is generally free and available without ID. The 5C’s on the weekend will guarantee a fair dosing of alcohol, either at a Mudd party or down at CMC where alcohol is almost always available. Although underage drinking is very common place, people rarely get busted.

Moose McGillycuddy’s

This is a sports bar/pool kind of place, though there is some dancing, especially during weekends. There is no cover, and dress is casual. Probably the closest bar aside from Heroes.
